LANCOM ES-2126P+: The new managed switch for maximum security

by david.nunes

London, UK, August 9, 2010 — Networking specialists LANCOM add a new professional device to their range of switches. The LANCOM ES 2126P+ is a managed layer-2 switch featuring 24 Fast Ethernet ports, two TP/SFP combo ports for Gigabit Ethernet, and PoE (802.3af). An extensive range of security functions, including TACACS+, mean that this switch can be applied in networks for processing payments by credit card and electronic cash (PCI DSS compliance). This switch is LANCOM’s response to the needs of small to larger scale networks with high demands on security, management and QoS.

Functions such as Quality of Service, rapid spanning tree, port trunking, bandwidth restriction, 8.8 Gbps throughput on the backplane, minimum latency times, and the Gigabit backbone connector make the ES 2126P+ an ideal switch for networks with high demands on bandwidth. Port-based 802.1x access checks and TACACS+ authentication provide maximum security.

Supporting up to 256 simultaneous VLANs, the LANCOM ES 2126P+ provides a basis for efficient network virtualisation in combination with LANCOM access points and routers. Professional port prioritisation enables the precise control of data traffic, such as for real-time video or voice applications.

A variety of methods can be used for configuration and management of the switch, including the command-line interface, a convenient web interface, by telnet, or via the serial port (RS 232). It is possible to activate SSH or SSL encryption. The device also integrates seamlessly into the LANCOM management tools LANconfig and LANmonitor, and it also supports SNPv2 management thanks to the integrated MIB. Virtual stacking management (VSM) enables up to 16 switches to be managed at one shared IP address.

The LANCOM ES-2126P+ conforms with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard, allowing any PoE devices connected to the switch to be detected and set up automatically, including important parameters such as classification and power limits. A total power output of 185 watts can be distributed variably across all of the 24 Fast Ethernet ports.

The LANCOM ES-2126P+ is available now for £609,83 (suggested retail price excluding VAT) and comes with a 5-year warranty. The optional SFP-SX module LANCOM SFP-SX-LC1 is available for £124,64 plus VAT, the LX version LANCOM SFP-LX-LC1 for £216,66 plus VAT.
