launch of TechRank – first recruitment company to test candidates on their tech skills to ensure the right skills for the right job

TechRank is launching this month across the UK – making objective tech testing available to both employers and candidates.

TechRank sources, expertly tests and objectively ranks tech talent helping companies hire the best and most capable person for the job. By testing candidates for the level of skill the position requires, businesses can make an objective decision about the person they hire to fill a vacant tech role.

This allows employers to pick the candidate with the correct skill level for the job. It helps to identify highly skilled people, who perhaps don’t perform as well at interviews. Likewise, it avoids those candidates that do perform well in an interview setting but perhaps aren’t as highly skilled from being placed in jobs that aren’t suitable for them.

TechRank helps employers have confidence they are getting the right person, and helps candidates get jobs based on their skill level, not their personality.  Overall, everyone has clarity and transparency on what skill level the candidate has and how this matches the needs of the job.

It may be a cliché, but many highly skilled techies don’t do well in an interview setting – meaning they are missing out on jobs. TechRank takes away the subjectivity of personality and interview charm and ensures that jobs are offered based on genuine skillsets.

TechRank is run by tech consultants – people who ‘get’ tech and understand the needs of employers and how important it is to find people who have the specific skills required for the job that needs to be done.

TechRank tests all candidates objectively. The candidate does the test online, choosing the specific areas that are relevant to their skills, for example  a front-end developer would complete a coding challenge in JavaScript that would rank him against all other similar developers that an employer would potentially be interested in.

This enables the candidate to pitch themselves at the correct level, and the employer will be clear about where more training or development might be needed in the future.

Candidates who take the tests are logged in the TechRank system and alerted if a suitable job is advertised. Employers can sort candidates by their skill level – far quicker and more accurately than reading through 100s of CVs.

TechRank was co-founded by Gurvinder Singh of Pioneer Labs and was born out of frustration. “We were finding it highly time-consuming and difficult to find great tech talent. It was a constant problem. So, we asked ourselves what needed to change and how this could be facilitated – the answer was clearly testing. It’s great for both the candidate and the employer. We trialled the system in our own business and found that it worked really well. It made a huge difference to Pioneer Labs so we decided to create a version that other businesses could use – and TechRank was born.”
