Oxford, UK. 1st July 2019 – New legal services app LegalDefence officially launches today to transform the legal sector in the UK by placing an experienced legal team at customers’ fingertips for a fraction of the normal cost.

The subscription-based service has been created to tackle some of the barriers that may prevent people from getting the legal advice they need to help with legal situations, helping them make better informed decisions in a timely and less stressful way.

LegalDefence members get access to a team of qualified legal professionals 24/7/365 for help across all areas of consumer and criminal law for themselves and their families. Using the smartphone app, members get straight through to a legal adviser. An AI-powered chatbot ‘Gordon’ is also able to answer common legal questions, designed to build consumers’ confidence in dealing with legal situations that might otherwise seem daunting.

LegalDefence is run by legal services company LegalShield, which has already protected over four million consumers in North America over the last 47 years.

To mark the official UK launch, LegalDefence carried out research which found that one third of UK workers who have experienced a legal situation in the last two years didn’t get professional help, with one in ten of those (9%) having to take time off work to deal with it(1).

The research explored the impact of not getting professional legal help, finding that the average Brit in this situation is missing 44 hours of work(2) – and potentially £548(3)– a month to deal with legal situations.

Mike Roberts, Managing Director of LegalShield, said: “We’re delighted to be officially launching LegalDefence in the UK. We know that in life, law happens. But there’s a worrying tendency for people to struggle through these situations alone, either because they simply don’t know where to turn for help, or they think getting professional support would be a hassle or unaffordable.

“As the research shows, not getting the right help when you need it can have a big impact on your life, not to mention the emotional strain. We’re here to empower people to deal with these situations by putting a team of legal professionals within their reach. We’re using technology to disrupt the traditional approach to legal services, to make it easy for people to have peace of mind.”

Martyn Beauchamp, Chief Customer Officer, Slater and Gordon, said: “Innovating through technology and progressive partnerships is a key part of our strategy to transform the way UK customers use legal services. Our partnership with LegalShield increases access to justice at a fair price and means we can offer UK customers an unrivalled level of choice and convenience – all from the palm of their hand.”

LegalShield UK is giving budding entrepreneurs, and experienced networkers an opportunity to become a LegalShield Associate and build their own business, by sharing the protection of the membership with people in their own network.
