LYCAMOBILE RENEWS TRANSATLANTIC POWERBOAT P1 SPONSORSHIP AFTER SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR
Lycamobile, the world’s biggest international mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), today announced that it is renewing its sponsorship with Powerboat P1, the world’s leading marine motorsport brand. The announcement follows a successful first year for Lycamobile as P1’s pre-eminent commercial partner.
Under the terms of the enhanced deal Lycamobile will enter a team, named Lycamobile Racing, in the P1 SuperStock championship in the UK and US, with a fully Lycamobile-branded boat. Lycamobile’s sister travel company, Lycafly, will be official travel provider for the Powerboat P1 SuperStock and AquaX championships.
Lycamobile’s sponsorship is being supported by TV and print campaigns, with a TV ad featuring on Fox TV in the US, and a commercial partnership with The Times in the UK.
The SuperStock and AquaX race calendar comprises of five venues in the UK and six in the US. In the SuperStock championship stunning P1 Panther powerboats compete against each other in a test of racing skill, while the AquaX series is for modified jet ski craft.
The first P1 race event takes place at Daytona, Florida between 24th-26th April, with the first UK exhibition event held in London’s Docklands on 8th May. The season reaches its finale with a race at St Petersburg, Florida on 23rd-25th October.
Last year P1 race action was televised in more than 50 countries – including coverage on Fox Sports channels, ESPN, Ten Sports and Sky Sports – and this year the figure will more than double, with the number of broadcast hours increasing by at least 20 per cent.
In the UK, Lycamobile Racing will be crewed by a husband-and-wife team, driver Stuart Cureton and navigator Sara Cureton, who between them have more than 15 years’ powerboat racing experience. The Lycamobile boat will take to the water for the first time in the USA at the P1 Jacksonville Grand Prix of the Sea in early June.

The Powerboat P1 sponsorship follows other partnerships recently announced by Lycamobile, including with West Ham United and with the no.1 box office smash hit movie Home.
