M-net strengthens position in voice services

Nokia Siemens Networks’ IP Multimedia Subsystem platform to offer new services

M-net Telekommunikations GmbH, a leading operator in Bavaria, Germany, is swapping its existing softswitch with a solution from Nokia Siemens Networks. The operator has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ Next Generation Network (NGN) and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) platforms for the rapid introduction of new services while reducing network operating costs and improving energy efficiency.

“Upgrading our network to an NGN platform is essential for us to further strengthen our position in voice services. With this upgrade, we will also be well positioned to capture the growing VoIP opportunity,” said Norbert Erl, head of central planning, M-net. “In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks’ IMS platform supports us to tap new business opportunities to increase market share and stay ahead of the competition.”

“We have a long-standing relationship with M-net, and with the IMS deployment we have further strengthened our strategic partnership with the company,” said Marc Erhardt, head of customer team key accounts at Nokia Siemens Networks. “With our technology expertise and strong local competence, we will ensure greater network flexibility and scalability while safeguarding the operator’s initial investments.”

Nokia Siemens Networks has begun migrating M-net’s embedded legacy switch base to an open NGN platform. The vendor has already implemented its IMS and hiQ platform for M-net to provide VoIP services flexibly. With this upgrade, the operator is strengthening its offering for business and individual customers.
