The global event for biotechnology provides a strong pipeline of investment flows into Malaysia.

“The annual Bio international Convention and Exhibition has been a platform for lead generation, industry benchmarking, and global collaboration and partnerships,” said Dr Wan Abdul Rahaman Wan Yaacob, Chief Operating Officer of BiotechCorp.

“We launched Bio-XCell in Bio Chicago in last year, and since then we have secured three global industry leaders in our park and ecosystem– Biocon of India, a global player in biopharma and Metabolic Explorer of France and Glycos Biotechnologies of the US in industrial biotechnology with investments worth more than USD200 million.

A dedicated Biotechnology hub, catering to the bioprocessing and biomanufacturing needs of global and regional players, Bio-XCell is the strategic tool to carry the commercialization strategy of BiotechCorp, in line with phase 2 of the National Biotechnology Policy (NBP) – in bringing innovations from lab to market.

The Deputy Prime Minister is also scheduled to officiate the Bio-XCell exhibition booth.

“Tomorrow, we will exchange a couple of agreements before The Right Honourable Deputy Prime Minister which will mark yet another significant step towards enhancing the infrastructure of the ecosystem and also its tenant mix,” said Raja Ridzwa Raja Abdul Aziz, CEO of Bio-XCell.

BiotechCorp will also see a couple of MOC/MOU exchanged between Malaysian biotech companies and global counterparts from Russia and Norway, enhancing Malaysia’s edge in the space of industrial biotechnology.

Several significant milestones and announcements will be made by BiotechCorp and Bio-XCell throughout BIO DC 2011.

“It will also be a big step for our annual BioMalaysia this year as for the first time we will be co-hosting the 2011 BioMalaysia with the 2011 Bio Pacific Rim Summit on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy. This is a big step for BioMalaysia and we are taking the event one step further. We will be announcing this at a Curtain Raiser event during Bio DC.

Dato’ Iskandar said “For the very first time ever, the 2011 Pacific Rim Summit in Industrial Biotechnology and bioenergy will be held outside the US. This collaboration will help place Malaysia on the global map of industrial biotechnology and highlight Malaysia’s competitive advantage in industrial bio-processing and bio-manufacturing”.

“We are happy to add value to the BIO event this year with a number of speaking engagements within the conference”, he added.

The Deputy Minister of Ministry of Science and Innovation, YBhg Dato’ Haji Fadillah Yusoff, will be speaking at the Leadership Summit Session and Professor Dr. Rofina Yasmin, Under Secretary Biotech will be speaking during the Breakout Session, entitled Going Global Overnight.
