Military Recommended Thuraya IP on Display at Defence Show in London

Abu Dhabi, 11th September 2011: Thuraya IP the world’s smallest satellite high throughput solution, supporting 384 Kbps streaming IP, will be showcased for government and defence consumers during the upcoming DSEi exhibition in London. The military tested solution, which attracted praise from both the British and French Ministries of Defence, was highly lauded for its unique size, advanced capabilities and durability, making it ideal for assured mission-critical operations.

Thuraya, a leading international mobile satellite services operator with a broad coverage area of more than 140 countries including Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia encompasses all the major conflict zones. Thuraya is the market leader in the handheld market with almost 65% market share across its footprint. With a powerful, robust network that automatically and intelligently allocates resources from areas of low-usage to areas with high traffic, consumers will never face network congestion or call drop-out issues ensuring secure, reliable connectivity at all times.

“Thuraya IP is a very specialised solution, compatible with a range of military requirements and offers a reliable, secure, and safe communication platform which is key for successful field operations.  Portable, rapidly deployable, easy to use and capable of robust speeds of up to 444 Kbps standard IP and 384 Kbps of streaming IP, this highly portable user friendly terminal also offers secure communications through discreet capabilities and supports various government approved military encryption devices” said Thuraya’s Vice-President Government Services, Mr. Robert Demers.

During DSEi, Thuraya will also be displaying its popular satellite handheld, Thuraya XT, which offers unprecedented voice quality and reliability –  ideal for the enduring and challenging conditions faced by military, disaster relief and humanitarian assistance personnel. Most importantly, Thuraya XT provides walk and talk capabilities so all government and defence consumers can access modern communications while on the move.

Also on show will be MarineNet Pro a new specialised maritime broadband solution developed in partnership with Comtech. This solution which complies with international maritime standards provides broadband-like speeds of up to 444 Kbps in addition to video-streaming capabilities up to 384 Kbps. Supporting Comtech MarineNet Pro is a phased array antenna that provides electronic tracking capabilities. This specialised antenna connects to the satellite instantly in rough seas and adverse weather conditions enabling data communications for navy and maritime fleets.

DSEi is held in London from the 13th to 16th September and is the world’s largest integrated defence and security exhibition.
