AVOID SHUT DOWN WITH ENHANCED miniDBA v2.10

SQL Server Monitoring Tool miniDBA, which counts FTSE 100 and gilt-edged companies including Barclays, UBS and Credit Suisse amongst its clients, has launched a portfolio of further enhancements that constantly monitor and generate alerts for all aspects of Microsoft SQL Servers.

Key features of miniDBA version 2.10 include identifying slow storage devices; advanced memory analysis tool; intuitive alert configuration and enhanced data integration to enable export to PDF, Excel or CSV.

In addition to diagnostic healthchecks, realtime dashboards and live performance data views, users can now view live and historic execution plans to analyse in their own time, view synchronised analytics relating to specific areas of interest in greater detail, and review interactive historic results graphs.

miniDBA’s founder, Alister McPherson said: “miniDBA now provides a set of tools that can help prevent database server crashes and poor performance, the costs of which can run into hundreds of thousands of dollars as well as causing irreparable reputational and customer relationship damage.”

“Our latest version enables users to prevent crashes and avoid service outages.  With IT systems the bedrock of business, it’s vital that end-to-end monitoring pre-empts failure, and those organisations that neglect monitoring risk catastrophic service shutdowns.”

He added: “Shut down is the ultimate fear for start up and established businesses alike and it can happen, with well documented cases taking days to remedy and massive amounts of money to rectify. Our tools ensure the end to end experience is monitored in a user-friendly manner and reported on intelligently and intuitively, empowering our clients to be proactive in resolving issues before they arise.”

When Australian virtual workspace for programmers GitLab, an alternative to Silicon Valley’s GitHub, fell foul of a series of human errors a year ago, the AU$25million funded business went offline overnight losing six hours’ worth of data.

Similarly, when online scrapbook Instapaper suffered a 31-hour outage it took a week to restore users’ data. “The site’s reputation took a lot longer to recover,” commented McPherson.

He said: “Losing data is a nightmare every company faces unless they invest in an intuitive and proactive end-to-end monitoring system that activates a response before the damage is done.”

miniDBA, a global business, provides a detailed view into the performance of an SQL Server, from instance level, databases and users to individual batches of T-SQL. The software enables clients to tactically diagnose issues when they arise and also allow you to strategically tune a server to prolong the hardware’s lifetime.
