Mobile Operators Launch First GSMA Mobile Connect Trial

Consumers are increasingly concerned over the security of their digital identity and today the GSMA announced that leading Sri Lankan operators Dialog Axiata and Mobitel will launch a beta trial of the GSMA Mobile Connect service that will allow consumers to conveniently, securely and consistently access a wide array of digital services by using their smartphones and feature phones as devices for authentication.

The service will be launched in conjunction with select Sri Lankan online service providers including Kapruka, MyDeal and WOW and will be made available to participating subscribers by the end of June.

Marie Austenaa, vice president and head of Personal Data & Mobile Identity at the GSMA said:

“The Sri Lankan beta launch of Mobile Connect marks the first implementation and, demonstrates interoperability of services across operators and paves the way for further launches of the Mobile Connect service over the next year.

Both the trial and the support of the major SIM technology providers, including Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrient, Morpho, Oberthur Technologies, and VALID are important steps as the industry works in cooperation to accelerate and establish a consistent and standardised set of services for managing digital authentication and identity globally.”
