Motorola Solutions Awarded $30 Million U.S. Customs and Border Protection Contract to Upgrade Security Communications

SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Oct 20, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX News Network/ — The Motorola Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced that it has been awarded a $30 million contract from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to provide Astro(R) 25 land mobile radio (LMR) P25 communications upgrades for border security operations on the northern U.S. border. The $30 million contract allocates for equipment and technology and for services and support.

The project will outfit CBP border agents, check point officers and agency aircraft with secure voice and data communications connectivity along 1,200 miles of continuous U.S. border and more than 20,000 square miles of operating area. Motorola Astro 25 LMRs enable radio security, federal law enforcement and multi-agency interoperability, GPS location and other radio data capabilities fundamental to CBP’s mission.

Under the contract, Motorola will manage the delivery, installation and optimization of P25 radio network technology. Additionally, the company will be responsible for Point-to-Point wireless IP backhaul optimization and civil deployment to more than 50 remote radio frequency (RF) tower sites over a period of 24 months.
