October 18, 2010

SCHAUMBURG, Ill – Oct.18, 2010 – The Motorola Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today at 4G World 2010, announced the fifth generation of WiMAX software – WMX 5.0 – allowing operators to extend their existing WiMAX networks without the need to purchase new hardware. Through the deployment of this software-only upgrade, Motorola’s WiMAX solution increases the value of the operators networks by providing capacity enhancements and support for industry standard features which improve operators return on investment.

KEY FACTS

Built on a legacy of quality software, Motorola’s WMX 5.0 provides operators with an easy means for increasing the capacity of a WiMAX network for improved wireless data, mobile broadband and voice access, without the cost and hassle of purchasing new hardware.
New to version 5.0 is the Enhanced Multi Carrier feature, allowing carriers to increase site capacity without the loss of any coverage.
Support for the Networking Working Group R6 enables Motorola access points to interwork in existing or new networks where a third-party Access Service Network Gateway is deployed.
Motorola’s WMX 5.0 software release is the first industry software platform to support features targeting the WiMAX Forum® Open Retail Certification Initiative requirements. This helps guarantee that end-user devices can be sold to consumers across any retail channel and can be activated without any help from service providers.
This release will be available to operators in the first quarter of 2011 and will enhance Motorola’s portfolio of infrastructure solutions to help operators grow their network capacity for improved service.
