Motorola Solutions Named “Official Mission-Critical Communications Provider” of the 2012 Democratic National Convention
Specialized radios supplied by Motorola will connect convention staff and support security and safety operations.
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 4, 2012 – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) today named Motorola Solutions (NYSE:MSI) as the “Official Mission-Critical Communications Provider” of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, taking place Sept. 4-6 in Charlotte, N.C.
Motorola is equipping the DNCC with mission-critical radios for its staff and volunteers to collaborate and connect with one another instantly. The company also is supplying the convention’s transportation system with radios that feature integrated GPS for vehicle tracking and route mapping from the command center. The radios will assist drivers with location and navigation information at the two major event venues, the Time Warner Cable Arena and the Bank of America Stadium, as well as other facilities in the Charlotte area. Motorola’s Security Services also provided a security assessment of the convention’s wired and wireless network.
In addition, Motorola is providing a number of its newest APX™ series two-way portable radios for the City of Charlotte to use on its interoperable ASTRO® 25 radio system. Motorola also has upgraded the firmware in thousands of Motorola Project 25 (P25) radios used by the city’s police and fire departments. The upgrade provides enhanced features for interoperable communications with the many local, state and federal agencies that are also part of the convention’s security and safety operations.
