CHESEAUX, Switzerland September 10, 2013 – NAGRA, the Kudelski Group (SIX:KUD.S) digital TV business, and the world’s leading independent provider of content protection and multiscreen television solutions, introduces JoinIn, the service provider’s blueprint for the connected home.

NAGRA’s JoinIn helps service providers enrich their subscriber offering and further monetize their platform by enabling a wide variety of advanced connected home scenarios like home gateway content streaming to multiple devices in the home, whole-home PVR functionality, content sharing on companion screens and access to both broadcast and cloud-delivered content from any device.

“Customers now expect to view both satellite and IP content on all types of screens – TV’s, tablets and mobile devices – and want to be able to watch their favorite content anytime, anywhere”, said Vivek Khemka, Senior Vice President Product Management at DISH Network.  “The NAGRA JoinIn architecture allows us to deliver just that, while helping us maintain strong security across all platforms. Any service provider looking to implement connected home solutions will benefit from this solution framework.”

“Addressing the challenges of the connected home has become a priority for most service providers worldwide,” added Philippe Le May, CTO for Numericable France. “The NAGRA JoinIn reference architecture is a welcome initiative for the digital TV ecosystem as it defines a standard-based approach to tackle key issues such as content protection and device interoperability for media delivery and content sharing in a multiscreen environment.”

“JoinIn aims to guide service providers and ecosystem partners in implementing a highly secure, efficient and flexible solution for the delivery, storage and sharing of premium TV content within the connected home”, said Ivan Verbesselt, SVP Group Marketing for NAGRA.  “It allows service providers to overcome the complexity and fragmentation of the new television landscape by engaging viewers with a consistent user experience to monetize premium content on every screen.”

Created to ensure seamless device inter-operability in a secure home domain, JoinIn comprehensively addresses the key challenges around device discovery, service discovery, content delivery and content protection throughout the entire connected home domain.
It integrates a comprehensive set of best practices in technologies, protocols, and open industry standards such as DLNA and uPnP, as well as HTML5 for efficiently providing a consistent user experience across multiple screens.  What’s more, JoinIn leverages best-of-breed conditional access and DRM technologies to ensure a secure home domain.

An implementation of the JoinIn reference architecture will be demonstrated at stand 1.C81 at the 2013 IBC Show in Amsterdam from September 13-17, 2013.  To learn more about NAGRA presence at IBC, please visit the mini-website for the event at www.nagra.com/dtv/ibc.
