NANOG Now Accepting Fellowship Applications

Four Fellows Will Be Selected to Attend NANOG 62 and ARIN 34, October 6-10, 2014 in Baltimore, MD

NANOGFREMONT, CA, JULY 31, 2014 – The North American Network Operator’s Group (NANOG) today announced it is now accepting applications for four fellowships offered for NANOG 62 and ARIN 34.  NANOG 62 will take place October 6-8, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore in Baltimore, MD, immediately followed by ARIN 34, which takes place at the same location.  Fellowship recipients will also be extended an opportunity to attend one of the NANOG Education Series classes scheduled for Sunday, October 5, 2014.

The NANOG Fellowship Program offers a minimum of two of each fellowship options listed: the Abha Ahuja and Operator of Tomorrow.  The Abha Ahuja Fellowship provides financial support for one female awardee who is a high school graduate, or currently enrolled student in courses leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree at a college or university, or a recently graduated student in North America, to attend the NANOG 62 and ARIN 34 meetings.  The Operator of Tomorrow Fellowship will provide financial support for one individual who is a high school graduate, or currently enrolled student in courses leading to a baccalaureate or graduate degree at a college or university, or a recently graduated student in North America, to attend the NANOG 62 and ARIN 34 meetings.

Fellowship recipients will be granted free meeting registration, round-trip economy class airfare to the meetings and hotel accommodations at the venue hotel booked directly by NANOG staff, a small stipend to cover meals and incidental travel expenses, and a NANOG Committee Member Mentor during the NANOG 62 meeting.

“NANOG fellowships offer individuals an opportunity to become a part of the NANOG and ARIN community experience, grow their skill set, and network with some of the best and brightest in Internet engineering and architecture today,” remarks Betty Burke, Executive Director of NANOG.  “Fellows will receive a first-hand view into the industry, that we hope will aid them in their continued education as well as future professional endeavors.”

Applicants must be in North America and have an understanding of the importance of NANOG through their educational or professional experience.  To be considered for fellowship, each applicant must present a case for attending a NANOG meeting that includes: what they intend to accomplish or get out of attending a meeting; how attending a meeting will help them in their work or study; and how they plan to apply their NANOG experience when they return home.  Those not accepted for NANOG 62 will remain in the candidate pool for consideration at a future NANOG meeting.
