Muscat, 29 August 2010 – Nawras Goodwill Journey 6 team presented a large consignment of refrigerators, air-conditioners, flat-screen televisions and washing machines to Khamis Al Fahdi, the Director General, Ministry of Social Development, at Al Dahira, in the Wilayat of Ibri, here on Sunday. These goods will later be distributed among 60 persons by the ministry.

Expressing his deep appreciation on behalf of the ministry and the people of Al Dahira for the benevolence and generosity of Nawras and its Goodwill Journey team members, Al Fahdi said: “It is indeed a great privilege and honour for all of us here that you all have come from so far bringing with you such a large bounty of gifts”.

He added: “The memory of this moment will remain in the hearts and minds of the people for a long time to come, not just the happy recipients but also those who have been witness to this wonderful event.

“Ramadan is a wonderful opportunity for Nawras and its volunteers to reach out to thousands of people every year and share with them the joys and happiness of this holy month,” said journey leader Khalid Al Zadjali.

Elaborating further, Zadjali said: “From the very start the aim and focus of the Nawras Goodwill Journey has been to reach out to ordinary people and light up their lives with sunshine, laughter and good times and spread love and charity all around us. However this year, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Blessed Renaissance and the importance being given to the progress and development of women, our initiatives this time are mainly directed towards organisations for women.”

Al Zadjali and the Nawras team later distributed special gifts from Nawras to staff at the Ministry of Social Development.

The day concluded at the Liwa Women’s Association where a huge, colourful reception took place, in honour of the visiting Nawras convoy team members. The Deputy Wali of Liwa, Sheikh Saif Mohammed Al Ghaiti, was the chief guest. Also attending the reception were Mariam Al Mamari, the Chairperson of the Liwa Women’s Association, volunteers and workers of the association, other officials from the Wilayat office, Abdullah Issa Al Rawahi, Chief Strategy Officer at Nawras, and other distinguished guests. An engaging and colourful cultural programme including costumed dances, songs and skits was presented by children and adults.

Later, Khalid Al Zedjali presented the keys of a car to Mariam Al Mamari. The Nawras team presented gifts from Nawras to all the volunteers and workers of the association.
