Network operator htp connects housing complexes to the optical fibre network with KEYMILE technology

Hannover, 30 January 2014 – As part of an extensive project, telecommunications service provider htp from Hanover connected large rented housing complexes to a high-speed optical fibre network. The buildings belong to Gundlach, a housing company and the Spar- and Bauverein cooperative. Tenants now benefit from broadband access of 100 Mbps.

As of immediate effect, telecommunications service provider htp has opted for FTTB (Fibre-to-the-Building) in Hanover’s urban area. It can supply around 3,400 apartments, belonging to the Gundlach housing company and the
Spar- and Bauverein cooperative, with ultra-fast broadband access of 100 Mbps. When creating the technological infrastructure, htp chose KEYMILE’s IP/Ethernet-based multi-service-access platform MileGate. KEYMILE is a leading supplier of cutting-edge technology for communications solutions in access and transmission systems. htp already has longstanding experience with MileGate systems in providing broadband Internet and different voice services.

The mini-IP-DSLAM MileGate 2011 is used as the access node. For fast Internet access, htp laid optical fibre right into each of the multi-dwelling buildings. MileGate 2011 terminates the optical fibre at a bandwidth of one gigabit in the building and connects subscribers via VDSL2 through the existing telephone cable. As a result, telephony services and Internet at up to 100 Mbps are provided for each subscriber. With its compact housing, MileGate 2011 is ideal for installation in a building and draws electricity from the building’s own power supply network. Each MileGate 2011 can connect up to eight subscribers. Two electrical 100/1000BaseT connections can be applied to cascade further MileGate 2011 systems to connect further subscribers via the same optical fibre.

htp used MileGate 2310 as the aggregation node. Because of its robust, compact design and superb reliability it’s perfect as a medium-sized connection point in optical fibre network architecture. Up to 144 MileGate 2011s can be connected per MileGate 2310. By offering access and aggregation via just one platform htp can administer the first two network hierarchies using one standardised management system.

“We’ve been operating various KEYMILE products for some years now and are impressed by their reliability. Therefore, it seemed an obvious choice to pick KEYMILE for the new project with the housing businesses”, explains Maik Rog, Head of Engineering at htp in Hanover. “Because local partners aren’t far away, requirements arising when creating the network infrastructure can be worked out and implemented quickly, leading to solid foundations for a long-term productive relationship that’s based on trust”.

Jochen Kraus, Sales Director for West Europe at KEYMILE also adds: “htp has been a KEYMILE customer for many years already. We’re delighted that our close partnership has meant that htp is continuing to expand its infrastructure with our solutions. It’s the first joint FTTB project and we expect it to be an important cornerstone for continuing our partnership successfully”.
