Network X Founding Partners Call for Convergence

by Anthony Weaver

BT, Proximus, Verizon, STC among those advocating for new ecosystem event.

The founding partners of Network X – a new telco focussed event from Informa Tech – have spoken about how the convergence of fixed and mobile networks is opening new opportunities for the telecoms industry, and why the market now needs a new ecosystem event. Senior figures from the likes of BT, Proximus, Verizon and STC have advocated for the need for the new show, and the importance of in-person industry events.

Network X will bring together 350 expert speakers and 100 exhibitors between 18-20 October at RAI in Amsterdam to set the telecoms agenda for 2023. The in-person only show combines established Informa events 5G World and Broadband World Forum with a newly created Telco Cloud conference.

Richard Mahony, Vice President of the Service Provider group at Informa Tech said: “The Network X founding partners are telco industry leaders, and their collective insights have helped to shape an agenda that will encourage meaningful debate and support industry innovation to drive development.”

Talking ahead of Network X, BT, CTO, Howard Watson said: “The opportunity to help shape a major new landmark industry showcase offers great potential for us and our industry peers. While some collaboration and meetings can happen online, some conversations are better had in person. Now that international travel and live events have resumed, Network X is a key opportunity for the industry to convene and collaborate.

“BT is striving towards convergence in its networks, as we look to provide customers with a reliable connection, whatever the technology. As our networks are increasingly brought together, key customer demands – like reliability – transcend technologies. By combining different technology conferences, Network X is reflecting this shift in network delivery. I’m looking forward to a successful inaugural event and hope to build on it even further next year,” Watson finished.

STC, Group CTO, Haithem AlFaraj added: “I am looking forward to meeting with the wider telco ecosystem and finding out what the biggest industry names are saying and doing – with such a list of senior decision-makers attending as well as the biggest vendors exhibiting, Network X will be the perfect place to do this.”

The agenda for Network X will see the most pressing topics in telecoms showcased, with everything from 5G to Open RAN, to the role of the public cloud, to FTTX and Passive Optical Networking discussed.

Verizon Business, CEO, Sampath Sowmyanarayan believes this is where the show will bring value to the industry: “Network X is bringing together global technology leaders and innovators to one place. The discussion around private 5G and mobile edge compute is critical for our industry right now. I am looking forward to meeting the biggest industry names to share ideas and approaches to these new opportunities for our industry.”

To help attendees find their most useful business connections and deep learning sessions, Network X features its own digital match-making app giving visitors a real-time view of who is attending the event as well as the possibility to request a meeting. Alongside operator pioneers, Network X will draw together government representatives and regulators, industry associations, start-ups, standard bodies, and the enterprises benefiting from the convergence of technology that is happening in the telecoms sector.

“The speed of developments in the sector means there is no better time to attend an event that is focused on mobile, fixed line and cloud technologies” concludes Mahony.
