NEWTEC TO DELIVER SAT3PLAY® TECHNOLOGY FOR SKYEVINE® SATELLITE BROADBAND SERVICES

SkyeVine® will deliver satellite based broadband services throughout Africa using Newtec’s award-winning Sat3Play® hub and terminals.

CENTURION, South Africa, and SINT-NIKLAAS, Belgium, 9 September 2011.

South African company SkyeVine®, which will provide satellite based broadband services in Africa using Ku-band satellite capacity on Intelsat’s New Dawn, has signed a major contract with Newtec which will deliver a Sat3Play® hub and terminals.

Sat3Play is a two-way satellite broadband system designed for IP-based service providers, looking to deliver competitive data, Voice over IP and satellite television services in areas where insufficient terrestrial connectivity is available.

Currently in the pre-launch phase, SkyeVine has already tested a large number of the Newtec Sat3Play terminals in Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, South Africa, Nigeria, Zambia, South Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Steve Rich, CEO of SkyeVine, commented: “Having tested the Newtec terminals across Africa they have exceeded our expectations and will deliver an excellent service to our customers. “We have already completed partnership and distribution agreements with three ISPs and there are others ready to sign.”

SkyeVine, which has worked with engineering group Q-KON on this project, has a mission to provide a ubiquitous Internet service to Africa and to create a new standard of broadband service through the use of advanced satellite technology.

Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec, said: “Our low-cost, Ka-band-ready Sat3Play terminals include both FlexACM® technology and the revolutionary 4CPM modulation. I am delighted that SkyeVine is setting new levels of broadband service through the use of Newtec’s technology. This will mean a fast and cost effective service offering in Africa.”

SkyeVine’s aim is to overcome infrastructure-related obstacles present in the African market with the introduction of satellite broadband that is cost effective, reliable and readily available.

Newtec will be showcasing the Sat3Play terminal at the IBC2011 exhibition taking place at Amsterdam RAI between 8 – 13 September.

About Sat3Play

Sat3Play® is Newtec’s affordable two-way satellite broadband platform designed for IP-based multiple service providers such as ISPs wanting to offer competitive voice, data and television services in areas where insufficient terrestrial broadband connectivity is available. Over 110’000 Sat3Play terminals have been delivered yet.

Offering significant cost-of-ownership reductions through consumer self-installation, DVB-S2 FlexACM® and adaptive return terminals, and a flexible migration path from Ku to Ka band, Sat3Play is a highly effective end-to-end solution. Newtec recently launched a new 800mW terminal for the Sat3Play broadband system, bringing increased return speeds and higher efficiency, as well as an additional 1m antenna for Sat3Play terminals.

These two additions extend the capabilities of Sat3Play for B2B applications.
