Huawei: Next Generation Networks will Provide the Foundation

for the Smart Cities of the Future

Shanghai, China, 3rd March 2015: “Next generation networks will provide the foundation for the smart cities of the future,” said Victor Zhang, President of European Public Affairs and Communications at Huawei, speaking today at the GREAT Festival of Creativity in Shanghai, China.

Mr Zhang shared this and other insights with an audience including hundreds of business leaders, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders from around the world in a panel discussion on smart cities entitled “Next Generation Infrastructure and Network”.

Looking ahead to 2020, when Huawei believes 5G technology will start to become commercially available, Mr Zhang explained how it will enable the internet of things to transform the cities in which we live. “5G will be 100 times faster than 4G and will support the 100 billion connected things we expect by 2025,” he said. “Combined with the internet of things and big data analytics, these technologies will give us the next generation infrastructure necessary to make smart cities a reality.”

Mr Zhang was speaking on the panel alongside Larry Stone, President, Group Public and Government Affairs, BT. World wide web inventor Tim Berners-Lee also shared with audience his insight of future cities and technologies.

The GREAT Festival of Creativity, organized by UK Trade & Investment and running in Shanghai from 2nd-4th March, celebrates creativity in business and encourages a new dialogue between global enterprises. HRH The Duke of Cambridge opened this event in Shanghai and Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport participated and banged the drum for Britain’s creative industries.
