NGI Signs Expansion Contract With Cambium Networks For Nationwide Network

Italy’s largest wireless Internet service provider plans to double nationwide footprint

ROLLING MEADOWS, Illinois, Sept. 16, 2015 Cambium Networks™, a global leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced that it has signed a three-year equipment supply agreement with NGI SpA (trade name EOLO) to supply PMP 450 and PTP 650 as NGI expands its broadband wireless network across Italy.

Serving both enterprise and residential customers, NGI currently has more than 200,000 wireless and wireline clients spread across Italy. High-speed wireless broadband connectivity delivered by NGI’s PMP 450-enabled network is already available to over 65,000 of NGI’s broadband subscribers and will double in size under the new contract. The focus of the network upgrade is to provide NGI with the scalability, spectral efficiency and stable broadband capacity it needs to enhance services to existing customers, and reach new ones.

NGI’s goal in this next phase of network expansion is to support the Digital Agenda for Europe that has an objective of ensuring all Europeans have access to minimum Internet speeds of 30 Mbps by 2020, and that 50% or more of European households have access to connections greater than 100 Mbps. According to Digital Agenda Europe, Italy ranks 25th of the 28 EU Member States in broadband delivery and must significantly increase broadband coverage.

“After trying other wireless solutions, we selected Cambium’s PMP 450 platform because of its superior performance and reliability,” says Luca Spada, CEO of NGI. “PMP 450 suits our needs perfectly as we prepare our network to meet and exceed the bandwidth speeds outlined in the Digital Agenda for Europe. Through our network modernization project and planned PMP 450 installations to supplement our existing equipment, we are confident in our ability to better serve our existing customers and reach new ones across our rapidly expanding customer base.”

“Customers, regardless of their vertical focus or subscriber base, require increasingly efficient, high-capacity and secure networks. The PMP 450 platform and its future evolutions will enable NGI to meet and exceed the performance requirements of the Digital Agenda for Europe,” said Atul Bhatnagar, CEO of Cambium Networks. “The combination of Cambium’s scalable high-speed solution will ensure that NGI continues to deliver reliable, media-rich broadband to its residential and enterprise customers.”
