Nokia Siemens Networks appoints Joyce Norcini as General Counsel

by david.nunes

Nokia Siemens Networks has appointed Joyce Norcini as its new general counsel. Norcini will join the company on August 2, 2010 reporting to CEO Rajeev Suri. Previously, Norcini was regional general counsel for HP in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Norcini has spent much of her career advising IT and telecommunications companies on legal, governance and compliance topics. In her thirteen years with HP, she has held various senior positions including regional general counsel for Europe, Middle East and Africa, which covers over 50 countries and generated $40 billion in revenue in 2009. She was involved in HP’s merger with Compaq as well as its EDS acquisition, working on pre-merger planning and post-merger implementation on both occasions.

“Having played a crucial role in two of the IT Industry’s largest mergers, we can draw on the extensive experience that Joyce brings,” said Suri. “I look forward to her joining us during this key period.”

“This is an exciting move, and I look forward to being a part of the huge transformation in the communications industry that Nokia Siemens Networks is driving,” said Norcini.

Norcini started her career as a prosecutor with the Office of the District Attorney in New York, went on to work in commercial litigation, and then became an advisor to Pacific Bell’s telecommunications companies.

She received her J.D. from the New York University School of Law, and earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Rosemont College.

Norcini will be based out of Nokia Siemens Networks headquarters in Espoo, Finland.

Sirpa-Helena Sormunen, who has been acting general counsel since the departure of Kirsi Komi earlier in 2010, will continue in her role as head of legal and compliance, Customer Operations.
