Nokia Siemens Networks tackles broadband challenge with savvier transport
Showcases new Carrier Ethernet Transport 3.0 and Packet Optical Transport at Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2011
Nokia Siemens Networks and Juniper Networks are launching Carrier Ethernet Transport 3.0 (CET) at Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2011. CET 3.0 provides a simple, cost effective migration to packet-based transport networks by managing the surging demand for bandwidth from mobile backhaul, business and residential data traffic. Nokia Siemens Networks is also showcasing its Packet Optical Transport system, illustrating how the end-to-end control of transport services can be greatly simplified. Both technologies are on show at Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2011, between 11 – 13 October, at the Hotel Okura, Amsterdam.
CET 3.0 has been enhanced with IP and Ethernet VPN service provisioning, end-to-end synchronization, extended interoperability with legacy mobile networks and global interconnect capabilities. The solution lowers total cost of ownership by up to 30%, and will be commercially available from November 2011.
Carrier Ethernet Transport 3.0 includes new components, the Nokia Siemens Networks’ A-1200-X and A-1210 Ethernet access switches, and Juniper Networks® MX80 3D Universal Edge Router and MPC cards that deliver cost effective Ethernet access and aggregation.

Visitors to the company’s stand at the Amsterdam event will be able to see a live demonstration of Nokia Siemens Networks’ Packet Optical Transport system’s new capabilities. These dramatically improve reliability and flexibility in networking and also provide enhanced quality of service (QoS) mechanisms for Ethernet services. They are based on the company’s flexible optics approach, a key part of Liquid Transport, which forms the Liquid Net architecture.
Flexible optics react to changes in capacity demand. By making the optical transport layer more flexible and easy to manage, more traffic can be carried cost-effectively compared to the IP layer. This removes many of today’s network scalability and cost constraints, and allows new services to be introduced more quickly. The approach includes a multi-reach DWDM platform and the use of coherent transmission technology to enable up to 100G per channel transport capacity with continental reach.
Nokia Siemens Networks’ savvier transport technology will be on display in the exhibition area at the event on stand 38.
