  • SCinet high performance multi-vendor network labelled as the fastest network on earth, built annually by volunteers from the supercomputing community to support the show
  • Nokia IP and optical gear to support 800GE port speeds and optical transport capacity of 1.6Tbps to support onsite needs and network peering

7 November 2023

Espoo, Finland – Nokia is pleased to announce its participation in the SC 2023 conference from November 12-17 in Denver, Colorado, with a booth and roster of speakers, as well as the deployment of its IP and optical networking gear to support SCinet – the high-performance network built annually by industry volunteers to support the research, technologies and demos at the show.

As the preeminent conference for the international high-performance computing community, thousands of scientists, engineers, researchers, educators, programmers and developers are expected to attend and learn about the most advanced technologies shaping research and education today.

Nokia’s next-generation high-performance networking portfolio is part of the SCinet live network, a multi-vendor network created to support some of the world’s most ambitious scientific research projects on display at the show. During SC 2022, network capacity hit 5.01Tbps and is expected to hit 6.71Tbps at the 2023 event – a notable feat for a live network in operation for fewer than two weeks.

As part of the network, the Nokia 1830 Photonic Services Interconnect (PSI-M) compact modular optical transport platform will deliver 1.6Tbps of capacity to support distribution of live customer traffic on the SC23 show floor. Nokia 7750 SR-1x FP5-based routers will provide Layer 3 network services and border router capabilities with port speeds ranging from 10GE to 800GE, and a system capacity of 6.0Tbps full duplex. Additionally, the Nokia Data Center Fabric solution consisting of 7220 IXR data center switches running on SR Linux, an open, extensible and programmable NOS, will provide Layer 2 access to exhibitor booths.

Attendees are invited to visit with Nokia at Booth #587 to speak with architects and engineers about how the Nokia portfolio, including the company’s new 7730 Service Interconnect Router (SXR), can support the world’s scientific community. Flash session presentations are also taking place at Booth #2195 where Nokia experts will share their insights into some of the hottest topics in the research community today. Scheduled talks include:

  • Quantum-safe networks: Today and into the future with Chris Janson from Nokia’s Optical business – Tuesday November 14th @ 13:30-13:34 MST
  • 800G Solutions/2.4T Optical Transport with Tim Drake – Principal Consulting Optical Engineer – Wednesday November 15th @ 11:15-1:30 MST
  • Segment Routing in R&E networks with Steve Dyck – Senior IP Consulting Engineer – Thursday November 16th @ 12-12:15 MST

Vach Kompella, Head of Nokia’s IP business, said: “We are excited to be part of SC 2023, the world’s most important supercomputing event, and contribute our high-performance portfolio to SCinet, the world’s fastest, most powerful and advanced live network. Our IP routing and optical transport equipment provides the capacity, resiliency, security and flexibility that this community requires to conduct projects and collaborate on a global scale – especially as the data sets involved grow ever larger and security remains a paramount concern.”
