SANTA BARBARA, Calif, ATHENS, Greece, and LONDON, United Kingdom, – December 14 – Visitors and yacht owners to a new marina on the Greek island of Rhodes will be able to enjoy access to high speed broadband services thanks to an innovative new solution delivered by Optronics Technologies  (ASE: OPTRON) using Occam Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq: OCNW) BLC 6000 multi-service access platform (MSAP).

Optronics Technologies, Greece’s premier supplier of fibre optic systems for communications and local networks, has signed a contract with Ionios SA to supply an advanced, open-access, fibre optic system throughout the new marina that is currently under construction. This will not only bring high speed communications to the marina buildings, but will also create a fibre-to-the-bollard network to bring broadband onto the yachts in the harbour.

Opening in Summer 2011, the New Marina of Rhodes will be a five-star tourist attraction with the ability to host more than 400 craft including the largest new mega yachts. The marina complex will also offer VIP suites, a shopping mall and shipyard maintenance services. The GPON-based, 100 Mbps broadband network will allow visitors to access triple play services including Internet, IP telephony and IPTV.

George Papastergiou, President of Optronics, said: “Our expertise in designing and implementing creative new FTTH solutions made us the obvious partner for Ionian Technical Construction. Our partnership with Occam Networks means that we can offer an end-to-end GPON solution that creates the highest quality of broadband service and a superior broadband experience for even the most discerning consumer.”

Optronics will deliver an end-to-end GPON solution, using Occam Network’s BLC 6000 GPON optical line terminals (OLTs). These OLTs have the performance and service assurance tools to deliver superior voice, data and video services for residential and business applications. The network infrastructure also makes use of Occam Networks’ ON 2506 optical network terminals (ONT) installed in the bollards and providing high bandwidth transport and fibre line termination in order to deliver broadband services direct to the users and boats in the marina.

Russ Sharer, VP of Marketing at Occam Networks, said: “This is an exciting example of how open access networks can provide real benefit for end users even in unusual and often hard-to-reach locations. The new marina will be at the leading edge in terms of the facilities it offers and I am sure that Optronics’ solution will make the marina a successful new tourist attraction amongst the sailing fraternity.”

Occam Networks and Optronics have been working together since 2009 to deliver innovative solutions to customers throughout Greece and the Greek islands.
