Oi Selects Cisco Technology for Its New Pay TV via Satellite Platform in Brazil

São Paulo, Brazil, August 8, 2014 – The Brazilian service provider Oi has adopted Cisco Videoscape™, an end-to-end solution that enables service providers to quickly deliver digital video services to their customers. The solution, which includes Cisco Videoscape VideoGuard™ Conditional Access System (CAS), a user interface, and Videoscape™ MediaHighway, provides a highly secure platform against piracy and a wide-ranging functionality that will be offered to subscribers in the coming months.

“By bringing together the best components, the service provider will have the opportunity to offer a linear transmission with standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) channels, and strengthen its revenues through other services such as Digital Video Recording (DVR), Internet applications (OTT) and Electronic Program Guide (EPG),” said Rodrigo Dienstmann, president of Cisco in Brazil.

With a highly secure encryption system, service provider signals can be protected from illegal transmissions, and can ensure the use of lower bandwidth for encryption, which may result in lower operating costs.

“The Videoscape solution has enabled us to deliver the new line-up with 43 regional Globo TV channels in HD with regional bouquets, a very fast channel zapping, great usability for the subscriber, and an entire roadmap of services,” said Ariel Dascal , director of Oi TV.

Recently Oi has invested in a new SES-6 satellite, to enable the increased transmission capacity of its cable TV service. Released in 2013 on the basis of Baikonur in Kazakhstan, SES-6 also provides to Oi a competitive differentiation in the market to ensure greater diversity in programming and best sound and image quality.
