OnePlus launches 5G Apps of Tomorrow programme

by Anthony Weaver

OnePlus has  launched the 5G Apps of Tomorrow programme, supporting creators around the world to develop the world’s next great app for 5G. OnePlus is again investing in community-led innovation, having built the company by listening to the real needs of people and working to make the best possible user experience.

With access to experts at OnePlus, as well as 5G smartphone hardware, and 5G network environments with support from EE, and consultation with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, 5G Apps of Tomorrow will draw on the unique OnePlus community to reimagine 5G capabilities. Applications to the programme are open from today at OnePlus.com/5G and close on 27th March, and the eventual winners will be evaluated by a panel including the CEOs of OnePlus and EE, and executives from Qualcomm Technologies, and a community vote.

Pete Lau, CEO and founder of OnePlus said, “5G is a game changer. It can change everything from gaming to communication, to health and beyond. More than that, it can perform several, or all, of these at the same time. One great example of how 5G will change the world is gaming. 5G’s dramatic improvement in speed, latency, and network capacity can truly fulfill the promise of cloud gaming. Combined with powerful OnePlus devices, people can play advanced games anywhere they are, provided they are on a 5G connection.”

OnePlus is perfectly placed to lead on 5G, with a strong community of tech enthusiasts, and a focus on delivering an intuitive and flexible user experience. OnePlus has been working on 5G development since 2016, working closely with industry leaders Qualcomm Technologies, as well as network carriers like EE in the UK. The 5G Apps of Tomorrow programme offers several layers of support for creators, whether they’re professional developers or just getting started. OnePlus will establish a 5G hub on its Forum, and from the pitches received, of those shortlisted, the Top 5 creators will then receive:

  • A paid-for trip to OnePlus HQ in Shenzhen to discuss their idea with Pete Lau
  • A OnePlus 5G device
  • Access to 5G experts via the OnePlus forums
  • Access to EE’s test environment
  • Financial support for one year (please see Ts & Cs)
