Update IM3 Customers on Network Modernisation; Make Donation to SepedaUGM Programme

Solo, Indonesia – Last week, during a visit to East Java, Indonesia, Ooredoo and the largest member of the Ooredoo Group, Indosat, met with young people from the regional cities of Solo and Jogjakarta.  Discussions focused on the Group’s commitment to improving young Indonesians’ access to life-enriching mobile technology and increasing their exposure to the life chances it can provide.

In Solo, Alexander Rusli, President Director & CEO, Indosat, Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo and Cynthia Gordon, Group Chief Commercial Officer, Ooredoo had the opportunity to meet with more than 100 members of its IM3 community.

The Executive team took the opportunity to update these customers of Indosat’s IM3 service, a pre-paid brand focused primarily on Indonesia’s younger consumer base, on the Company’s ongoing network modernisation efforts.  In particular discussions focused on the positive impact a faster, further reaching and more reliable service could have on their day-to-day lives.

Ooredoo Group member Indosat was the first in Indonesia to offer customers access to a UMTS 900MHZ network, and the faster services, enhanced geographic coverage for mobile broadband and more seamless experience for smartphone users this provides.  As a priority for 2014 and as part of the Group’s commitment to supporting human growth in all of the communities it operates, the Company has pledged to roll this network out to as many of the communities across its network as possible.

The visit continued with activity in the city of Jogjakarta where the team visited the University of Gajah Mada (UGM), showing their support for the SepedaUGM program by donating 100 bicycles to the University campus. Indosat has a long history of cooperation with this University and currently also provides scholarships to UGM students who show strong drive and potential.

Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO Ooredoo said, “We are excited to be here today and to have the opportunity to spend time with some of our younger customers.  It is through interaction like this that we can develop mobile products and services that genuinely meets their needs and helps them best use this technology to grow as individuals.  We believe Ooredoo has a responsibility to contribute to the social and economic development of the communities we operate within; we want to help everyone, including young people to grow and fulfill their potential.”

“Indosat through a variety of services such as, IM3, dompetku, and a range of mobile applications continues to help Indonesian youths enjoy the benefits of ICT technology advancements, helping them in turn to achieve their dreams. Similarly to our parent Company Ooredoo young people have always been a major focus of Indosat.  Taking the IM3 brand as an example, this service was created from our passion to meet the needs of Indonesia’s dynamic youth.  In 2014 we will continue to develop life-enriching services and applications that address their individual needs, empowering and educating this important younger generation through the benefits of connectivity.” added Alexander Rusli, President Director & CEO.

Through operating company Indosat, Ooredoo operates a variety of programmes in Indonesia aimed at young people such as the IM3 Mobile Academy. Launched in 2008 the Academy brings together secondary school and high school students from across Indonesia.  To date the academy has hosted more than 800 teenagers at educational seminars, training and sharing sessions designed to teach them to become more independent, more creative and to develop leadership skills.  The most recent Academy event in 2013 was attended by 138 participants where these IM3 ambassadors were encouraged to become trendsetters in their communities.  In 2014 the IM3 Mobile Academy will designate a King and Queen from its existing ambassadors who will be eligible to win a series of prizes.

In 2013, Indosat sent two of Indonesia’s brightest youngsters as part of an Ooredoo youth delegation led by the Ooredoo Group Chairman to attend the International Telecommunications Union (ITU)’s, Global Youth Summit in Costa Rica where they participated in discussions around how to resolve the world’s problems through ICT. In addition, Indosat sent five teenagers as part of a special children’s delegation sponsored by Ooredoo to meet Ooredoo brand-ambassador and football star, Lionel Messi in Doha where they received football coaching and undertook a variety of cultural activities. The company also consistently provides scholarships to outstanding students all over Indonesia.

An additional youth-focused initiative is the Indosat Wireless Innovation Contest (IWIC) which in 2013 celebrated its seventh anniversary of challenging young developers throughout Indonesia to develop business proposals for the creation of mobile applications.
