Yangon, Myanmar

Ooredoo Myanmar (Ooredoo) announces the successful launch of M-Pitesan, a life-changing mobile money solution, allowing mobile users in Myanmar to enjoy instant money transfers and efficient payments via their feature phone or smartphones.

A secure and reliable solution, M-Pitesan combines state-of-the art technology, advanced customer security features, easy access and dedicated 24/7 customer support for mobile users. In the near future Ooredoo plans to launch further developments of the service to include QR code payments for goods and services, and bill payments for utilities and municipal services.

M-Pitesan enables secure money transfers between Myanmar mobile numbers through a dedicated mobile wallet for Ooredoo customers or an Ooredoo store for non-registered users. In addition, M-Pitesan is the only mobile money service provider in Myanmar that offers real-time tracking between user bank accounts (CB Bank) and the mobile wallet, allowing customers to enjoy seamless wallet-to-bank deposits.

Vikram Sinha, Acting CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar added: “There is real appetite for mobile money services in Myanmar. I am confident that M-Pitesan will give customer’s access to the digital financial services they have been asking us for, helping support their increasingly digital lifestyles.  We have big plans for M-Pitesan and in the months to come will be expanding the service to include additional functionality for customers, banks and businesses alike.

Mobile customers may transfer or receive money through Ooredoo’s 2,400 M-Pitesan agents in Yangon, Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Bago and Taunggyi. In support of financial inclusion, Ooredoo plans to add another 7,500 agents to expand its network in future especially in rural and underserved regions, with all M-Pitesan agents providing deposit, withdrawal and money transfer services.

Vikram Sinha concluded: “Together with our deep distribution network and first-class customer service, M-Pitesan will help spur growth in our rapidly changing country, include more people into Myanmar’s financial system and move us closer to helping support a truly cashless society in Myanmar.”
