Ooredoo Myanmar commits to support Myanmar’s digital transformation

  • Ooredoo celebrates 4th anniversary of operations in Myanmar
  • Introduces new innovative products to help simplify the lives of customers

Yangon, Myanmar

Ooredoo Myanmar recently celebrated its 4th Anniversary, where it announced updates on its investment in Myanmar, expanded 4G coverage, new innovative products, and future plans to support Myanmar’s digital transformation.

Earlier this year, Ooredoo completed a 4G Pro network demonstration, showcasing its readiness to bring a 5G service to the people of Myanmar. This next generation network is about accessing a whole new digital lifestyle that will change people’s lives.  It is expected to have a positive impact for business, for society and the nation, with sectors such as the health, education and entertainment industries expected to be early beneficiaries of the technology.

Speaking from launch celebrations at the Ooredoo Myanmar Head Office Vikram Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Myanmar, said, “The past five years have been something of a whirlwind as we have worked around the clock to bring connectivity to the four corners of Myanmar.  We have taken bold steps along the way, while always remaining true to our mission of enriching our customers’ digital lives.  We would like to thank the people of Myanmar and our stakeholders for their ongoing support, with particular thanks to our customers who are always the main reason we continue to innovate.”

Mr. Sinha added “Mobile technology has also offered us the opportunity to bring everyday services to people, which has been life-changing for many.  We see people asking for faster, stronger connections every day and from this hunger for digital services we have seen explosive growth in people’s digital lifestyles.  Our services can help people to connect to a better future and we’re still committed to doing exactly that here in Myanmar.”

During the Anniversary celebrations, Ooredoo Myanmar announced the launch of an innovative new mobile plan, aimed at simplifying the digital life of customers. The “Ooredoo Next”, is an innovative customer interface that enables customers to manage their account via Facebook.  Customers no longer need to remember multiple codes and can now check the offers, buy packs, check their balance and access special promotions easily from Facebook Messenger.

Earlier this year Ooredoo Myanmar became the fastest network in Myanmar, according to the Ookla Speedtest Intelligence analysis for Q1 – Q2 2018.  By the end of 2018, 92% of total population, including over 300 townships, is expected to be covered by Ooredoo’s 4G Plus network and its fiber-roll out will reach over 15,000 km across Myanmar.

During the celebrations Ooredoo Myanmar talked about the importance of Myanmar’s communities and how its commitment to Myanmar goes beyond infrastructure development. Since its launch Ooredoo has been dedicated to delivering social initiatives in Myanmar, focusing on education, health and social development, while partnering with local and international organizations such as UNOPS, PACT Myanmar, Myanmar Book Aids Preservation and Foundation, Myanmar Red Cross Society and other local NGOs.

In celebration of the anniversary, Ooredoo Myanmar will be giving out four half Tical gold coins to winners daily from 16th – 31st August 2018.
