Ooredoo’s Indosat & IDX Invite Youths to Become Capital Market Investors

Collaboration with Indonesia Stock Exchange aims to improve young people’s financial literacy while increasing IDX stock market activity

Doha, Qatar / Jakarta, Indonesia

Member of Ooredoo Group, Indosat, and the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) this week launched the Indosat Stock Trading Contest (“ISTC”) program in Indonesia.  The launch event was attended by representatives of Indosat, parent company Ooredoo, the IDX and the Indonesian Financial Services Authority.

ISTC aims to improve the financial literacy of Indonesia’s youth as well as improving their understanding of capital market stock investments.  It also offers the opportunity to build transactions experience via a virtual stock game which directly mirrors, in real-time, stock options traded on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

ISTC was created to support the National Movement for Love of Capital Markets (Gerakan Nasional Cinta Pasar Modal – “GeNTa”) as well as to respond to the nation-wide challenges of low financial literacy and stock market participation. The Program which is offered in collaboration with PT Winratama Perkasa (“WinGamers”), the first virtual on-line trading platform available in Indonesia, will continue to be open for participant registration until 30 September 2015.

“We are passionate about using mobile technology to continuously improve the education opportunities available to Indonesia’s youth.  A strategic priority for the government is to educate society about the importance of investing to secure a better future.  Young people are at the heart of this and will be the drivers of greater capital markets activity in the years to come.  To support this priority while also generating interest and involvement from the nation’s youth, together with the IDX, we initiated the Indosat Stock Trading Contest program,” said the President Director & CEO of Indosat, Alexander Rusli.

Dr Nasser Marafih, Group CEO, Ooredoo added: “Across the Ooredoo footprint we are committed to using ICT to help young people realise their potential.  With this innovative program Indosat is once again a pioneer for our Group in this space.  ISTC will not only help to improve the financial literacy of Indonesia’s youth, but also help to educate them on how to use technology to invest for a better and brighter future.  Through ISTC we are excited to inspire and help shape Indonesia’s next generation of investors and capital markets enthusiasts.”

“The students who will participate in ISTC will have the opportunity to test their knowledge and ability in stock investment. Through this program, we encourage the development of young local investors which in turn will support the advancement of Indonesia’s national economy through capital market trading activity”, said Ito Warsito, President Director of Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) .

“WinGamers, as a partner in the ISTC program, is providing a full system of “virtual on-line trading” which is based on real time transaction data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. WinGamers continues to support a number of capital markets awareness activities since 2013 and is the provider of Indonesia’s first virtual on-line trading services.” said Ivo Rustandi, Director of WinGamers.

Titled “Realize Your Dreams and Become a Young Billionaire”, the contest is aimed primarily at Indonesia’s youth. It offers the opportunity to win up to ten million rupiah (~US$800) in prizes and a top prize of one hundred million rupiah (~US$8,000).  In addition to this throughout the competition there are gadgets to be won along with the opportunity to meet analysts and prominent Capital Markets experts.  These Indonesian experts will share capital market trading knowledge and expertise during roadshows scheduled to take place on various University campuses across Indonesia.  The roadshows will be integrated with the Investments Galleries the IDX hosts on 122 campuses nation-wide.

The benefits of participation extend beyond the program itself as participants will also be eligible to apply for internships at Indosat as well as apply for scholarships for the nation’s Capital Market School, to learn how to make investments/ stock transactions and virtually sharpen their ability to become the investors of tomorrow.

“We are excited for the potential this program has to educate young investors, and in turn support the advancement of the national economy through increased trade in Indonesia’s capital markets,” concluded Indosat’s Alexander Rusli.
