Ovum Technology Audit: inubit BPM convinces with combined process and data management

Report highlights management infrastructure for structured as well as unstructured processes

Berlin, November 2, 2011 – In the Ovum Technology Audit released last week, Ovum recommends organizations to consider the inubit Suite 6 which provides a genuine quick-start path to implementation of BPM projects. In his statement, Mike Thompson, Ovum Principal Analyst, gives a highly positive evaluation of the inubit BPM approach to handle processes and data both in a unified and model-driven manner. Furthermore, the report highlights the particular strength of the inubit Suite to model and manage also less structured processes at runtime.

One of the report’s central recommendations is the ability of the inubit Suite to combine both process and data management. With this, the inubit Suite not only automates the behavior and logic of processes. Instead, it also holds a similar mechanism for data management which allows to model data living in different systems in a unified manner and independently of its actual formats and location. The data can be visualized and interacted with while a federation mechanism in combination with an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) allows retrieving and manipulating the data where it lives. “While BPMN models are used to define and automate the behavior and logic of structured processes, inubit does have a similar mechanism for data management that is a strong product and market differentiator,” Michael Thompson explains.

Another important aspect the Audit points out is the fact that inubit BPM is not restricted to the ability to model, deploy and run highly structured processes. In addition, inubit also considers the way in which less structured processes can be modeled and managed at runtime and thus creates a management infrastructure for both structured as well as unstructured processes.

In his argument, the analyst mentions three more aspects he considers noteworthy: The inubit Suite is acknowledged as a solution fully ‘built from scratch’ based on Java and XML, with a full SOA foundation. Its openness in respect of adherence to IT standards provides access to a multiple of operating systems, application servers, and databases. This also ensures that there will be no proprietary vendor lock-in and that the implemented solution will be extensible.

As regards the implementation of BPM in organizations, the report stresses two aspects supportive of a successful project: In a first step, the strong published inubit structured methodology ensures a quick start to BPM and widens the scope to which BPM technology can be applied. It reduces the risks of introduction and allows a higher productivity and agility in today’s BPM projects. The fast installation in consequence creates an aggressive route to starting BPM instead of requiring a large integration overhead and thus ensures quick results.

Refreshing end-to-end solution

“The report confirms our approach to BPM – namely that a BPM solution must support the full process lifecycle from modeling down to legacy integration and end-to-end supervision. inubit supports all types of processes within a single Suite so that customers do not have to bother with several products and media breaks,” Dr. Torsten Schmale, inubit CEO, states. “Ovum has long supported the view that BPM is a central element of an organization’s infrastructure, and the artificial segmentation of the market into different types of process management that require dedicated solutions is counter-productive. Therefore, it is always refreshing to see solutions that do not make those artificial and essentially damaging distinctions,” Michael Thompson summarizes.
