Partnership with NTT DOCOMO makes the Japanese Translator app available to 3 Hong Kong customers

Hong Kong, 8 July 2014 – 3 Hong Kong, the mobile telecommunications division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited (HTHKH; stock code: 215) today announced the exclusive introduction of NTT DOCOMO’s popular Japanese Translator app in Hong Kong.

This amazing travel aid enables users to communicate with ease in Japanese, even if they do not know the language.

Swift voice-to-text and text-to-voice translation Developed by NTT DOCOMO, the Japanese Translator app accesses a huge cloud-based vocabulary and sentence database covering every aspect of travelling to Japan. It is capable of translating spoken English, Mandarin and Korean into written and spoken Japanese, and vice versa, swiftly on a mobile handset.

Simply speak into your smartphone and the app will automatically translate what you say into Japanese, while displaying a voice-to-text translation on screen and dictating the message audibly. The app also comes with text-to-voice translation functionality, allowing users to make edits by tapping a dialogue box in order to improve the accuracy of a sentence.

Free trial until 30 September 2014

From today until 30 September 2014, 3 Hong Kong customers can download a trial version of the app for free by simply dialling *87*18 on their smartphones. They can download from Google Play after receiving a link in an SMS. The Japanese Translator app has already clocked up more than 5.3 million downloads since launch in November 2012 in Japan.

HTHKH Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Tan said: “Japan is one of the top-10 popular travel destinations among Hong Kong people. Following successful launch of the Japanese Menu Translator last year, we are very pleased to work once again with our long-term partner, NTT DOCOMO, to make the greatly-enhanced Japanese Translator app available in Hong Kong. We believe the new app will make communications a whole lot easier for non-Japanese speaking users when they visit Japan. This travel aid will add great convenience and fun to their stay in Japan.”

Keisuke Yoshizawa, Executive Director for strategic alliance at NTT DOCOMO’s global business division, said: “We are very pleased to work cooperatively with 3 Hong Kong to promote our Hanashite Hon’yaku (Japanese Translator) service in Hong Kong. We sincerely hope that our service will help users to have a pleasant experience whilst travelling in Japan. Henceforth, we would like to continue our collaboration with 3 Hong Kong as to enhance a better mobile experience on a global scale.”
