Piksel Expands into Content Acquisition Services for Next Generation of OTT Players
Piksel is the only online video provider to offer an all-in-one solution with tailor-made content acquisition services.
Piksel Content Services help telcos, internet service providers, cable operators and media companies to launch OTT ventures.
Piksel customers avoid complexity of negotiating content rights and costs of working directly with content brokers.
NEW YORK, NY, January 19, 2015 — Piksel, a global provider of video monetization software and solutions designed to maximize the reach and return of video, announces today the launch of Piksel Content Services. Piksel will manage all stages of the content acquisition process for new OTT players, including the negotiating and licensing of content rights, so that new entrants to the market are armed with a full “procurement to playout” solution. The launch makes Piksel the only online video platform vendor that also provides a tailor-made content offer.
The service will appeal to the growing number of businesses (telcos and internet service providers for example) that have subscriber bases and potential audiences but lack the content and relationships with studios needed to venture into OTT video delivery. Piksel can also help media companies that want to deliver targeted content to connected devices, but do not have the necessary specialist expertise.
Piksel Content Services will be provided to customers as an addition to Piksel’s Digital Showcase™ solution, a SaaS-based video platform which enables content owners, aggregators and distributors to integrate live, linear and on-demand programming into a multiscreen environment. The combination of Piksel’s video platform and its tailored content offer means that customers have an all-in-one service and avoid the difficulties and costs of directly brokering deals with studios.
Monica Piriz has joined Piksel as VP of Content Acquisition and Strategy to drive its new content services division, and comments: “I’m excited to join Piksel at such a pivotal time for the company, as it makes a game-changing move to open up the OTT market to a whole new segment. The potential for a new wave of OTT players from less ‘traditional’ backgrounds has been growing for a while, but until now there hasn’t been the right incentive out there to support businesses wanting to make this leap. Piksel is now bridging that gap but without the usual price-tag, and taking a compelling proposition to this new sector.”
Key benefits for Piksel Content Services customers include:
? Direct engagement with viewers grounded in a handpicked content library, promoting deep audience engagement – far deeper than if content had been acquired directly from an aggregator;
Faster time to market, owing to outsourced management of labor-intensive platform creation and content acquisition; and
Ability to attract and retain a larger audience at a predictable cost, by cost-effective content distribution through chosen channels and lack of investment in specialized technology resources or hardware platforms.
Adding content acquisition services to customers reflects Piksel’s unique business model that treats services (such as managed services, strategy planning and design) as a fundamental part of its customers’ online video deployment process.
Kevin Joyce, Chief Commercial Officer at Piksel, says: “We’re the only company in the market today to offer bespoke content acquisition into our online video proposition, which shows the confidence we have in our services-led business model. Our heritage in online video has helped us understand that services are just as important as first-class technology when it comes to the success of our customers. By handling these aspects – and especially content acquisition – we do the heavy lifting required to build an OTT business, which can often be a daunting and difficult process.”
Piksel will be available for briefings at NATPE, Miami, from January 20-22, 2015, to discuss the new service and the strategy behind it. Please get in touch if you would like to speak to Monica Piriz.
