Police Service of Northern Ireland extends £19m
Fujitsu ICT Managed Services contract

London, 18th July 2011Fujitsu is today pleased to announce the extension of its highly successful contract with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) for the provision and management of its ICT Managed Services.

The initial 5-year, £34m contract was signed in 2008 and saw the PSNI reduce the complexity of its service management by consolidating its existing, multiple IT service providers into a single provision by Fujitsu. This included the Service’s service desk, fixed line telephony network, data networks (covering WAN and LAN), desktop and laptop computer requirements, applications hosting services, a network of static and mobile automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and a range of applications support services.

This three-year extension, worth £19m, takes the contract through to 2016. The new contract offers a number of benefits to the PSNI, including an additional saving of 15% on current operational ICT costs and extended scope to cover additional applications.

Fujitsu manages the maintenance and servicing of over 9,000 PCs and laptops, which are crucial to police officers and staff performing their daily duties. It also operates a 24/7 on-site support desk, which has dramatically improved the speed with which IT queries are handled.

John Tully, head of Information and Communication Services at PSNI, said: “The Police Service of Northern Ireland’s purpose is to make Northern Ireland safer for everyone through professional, progressive policing. This approach requires a solid ICT infrastructure that can be relied upon in mission-critical situations, and Fujitsu’s extensive management of our services has surpassed our expectations in this respect. Fujitsu has delivered real, tangible benefits to our front line officers and we look forward to the contract’s continued success over the next five years.”

Anthony Pipe, managing director (acting) Government Division, Fujitsu UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be awarded this contract for the full eight-year period and are able to provide an even more cost effective, comprehensive provision to the PSNI. The success of the contract is evidenced in its direct impact on both office-based staff and front line officers in Northern Ireland, who now benefit from higher quality support for ICT services across many aspects of their work. As this extension further expands the scope of Fujitsu’s provision, we are confident we can bring similar improvements to new applications within the PSNI’s ICT operations.”
