Powerwave Elected to 3G Americas’ Board of Governors

BELLEVUE, Wash.

3G Americas, a wireless industry trade association representing the 3GPP family of technologies, today announced the election of Powerwave Technologies, a global leader in end-to-end wireless coverage and capacity solutions, to its Board of Governors. Powerwave joins the board of 17 leading operators and manufacturers to work together to promote, facilitate and advocate for the deployment and adoption of HSPA and LTE mobile broadband technologies throughout the Americas.

Chris Pearson, President of 3G Americas, offered his congratulations on the new appointment. “Powerwave strengthens the ecosystem of leading companies that comprise the 3G Americas Board of Governors. Their solutions for antennas, base stations and coverage will enhance the work of the 3G Americas organization in advancing the deployment of 3GPP mobile broadband technologies and the traffic management requirements faced by the industry today.”

In the Americas region, there are 71 commercial HSPA networks, including seven HSPA+ networks, and more than 86.3 million UMTS-HSPA mobile broadband connections. There will be an expected 174 million UMTS-HSPA mobile broadband connections in the Americas by the end of 2011 according to Informa Telecoms & Media. LTE will be launched in the region in 2010 and 3G Americas will continue to be a strong advocate for spectrum policy and network management for the continued success of mobile broadband throughout North, Central and South America.
