Morpho launches a new electronic ID solution to protect e-banking and e-commerce transactions

Morpho (Safran group) is presenting “ypsID® Key e-M” at CARTES & IDentification, the leading international event for the digital security, smart technologies, payment and contactless sector. This unique solution is a strong authentication device that enables secure access to online services anytime, anywhere.

Businesses, banks and retailers are increasingly offering their customers highly efficient services on the Internet. In order to create an online relationship between service providers and customers, Morpho offers the “plug & authenticate” solution ypsID® Key e-M, a strong authentication device for logical access control and digital signatures with a public key infrastructure (PKI).

Fully secure e-transactions, such as access to the customer’s account, transfers and payments, are possible simply by inserting the token in a USB port. As there is no software to install, all target groups will be able to adopt this solution quickly and easily.

To protect against identity theft and cyber fraud attacks, ypsID® Key e-M has adopted a smart card architecture with the highest level of resistance to attacks. Its protection mechanism is reinforced by an onboard, mobile trusted browser which helps combat the more sophisticated man-in-the-browser attacks.

Maximilien Nguyen, VP I.A.M at Morpho, emphasizes: “Morpho’s ypsID® Key e-M has been designed to enhance the customer’s experience so that security is built in to everyday use and not a working restriction. Based on the most demanding international and industrial standards for digital security, it reinforces the protection and security of systems, improves their reputation and thus encourages more online commercial transactions. Online service suppliers will appreciate the features inherited from the smart bank card: an acknowledged level of security, customization and ease of use.”

“ConnectSIM” by Morpho and Telenor nominated for SESAMES award

Morpho (Safran group) and Telenor Group have been nominated as a finalist in the prestigious SESAMES award. Their innovation “ConnectSIM” has been shortlisted by the jury in the “Hardware” category, which acknowledges cards, tokens or chips that represent a genuine breakthrough in the card industry and deliver significant benefits to potential users.

ConnectSIM is the world’s first wireless Local Area Network (LAN) enabled SIM. It provides new freedom and security for mobile phone users. Featuring WLAN 802.11 capability, the ConnectSIM card becomes a seamlessly integrated node in any wireless IP network, creating trust for its ecosystem: TV, laptop, games, mobile phones, etc. Such a SIM creates new business opportunities, giving mobile network operators a key position in trusted services: mobile transactions, identity, WEB security and more.

“The nomination for the SESAMES award is recognition of this innovative technology developed at our research lab at Telenor,” says EVP Morten Karlsen Sørby, Telenor Corporate Development. “We believe that this technology will create new exciting business opportunities for mobile network operators, including our mobile operations in the Telenor Group,” he says.

“Being nominated for the prestigious SESAMES award acknowledges our constant ambition to think ahead and find solutions that drive development of the market,” commented Philippe d’Andréa, Executive Vice President at Morpho’s e-Documents Division.

Almost 400 entries were submitted for this year’s SESAMES award. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on December 6, on the eve of the 2010 CARTES & IDentification exhibition in Paris.

Morpho and NTTM present name dialing solution

Revolutionary idea enables any GSM device to dial names instead of numbers

Morpho (Safran group) and NTTM Ltd. are presenting “CallMyName”, a unique dialing solution which creates a more convenient way to reach people and businesses by dialing names instead of phone numbers, with any kind of mobile phone.

Domain names started the Internet & social networking revolution – now CallMyName will bring this revolution to the mobile ecosystem. CallMyName enables the SIM card to recognize letters of the alphabet and place a call as if a number was dialed. The user, either an individual or a business, chooses a meaningful name for dialing based on letters of the alphabet, digits and symbols of any length.
This opens up new revenue streams for network operators by allowing them to lease and register the call names (“c:names”). The user no longer needs to remember phone numbers – businesses can be contacted simply by dialing their “c:name”, for example. This convenient means of placing calls will boost traffic and operator revenues.
The first three operators to adopt CallMyName will launch in the first half of 2011.

Morpho and Maeglin Software sign partnership agreement to offer a new flexible mobile data backup solution

Paris, December 2010

Morpho (Safran group) has signed a technology partnership agreement with Maeglin Software, experts in the development and sales of security services for mobile phones. The companies are joining forces to provide “Pleex”, a flexible solution to insure and protect personal data of mobile phone users. It is being presented at the CARTES & IDentification exhibition in Paris.

If a mobile phone is lost or stolen, the subscribers and providers are both affected:

·
Subscribers, who not only lose the phone itself, but all their personal data like phone numbers, contact addresses and other digital media stored on the SIM card and on the mobile phone itself;
·
Mobile operators, who will very likely see a temporary slump in traffic with the subscribers who have lost their contact data.
These are good reasons for mobile network operators to offer their customers additional security and convenience in the form of reliable backup solutions.

Pleex is not only a data backup solution for devices, but a set of software elements that can be combined to create an innovative mobile value-added service. The set includes:

•        PleexBackup, to let mobile users back up, restore, aggregate and manage all their mobile content, with a device client and 24/7 Web and WAP access.

•        PleexShield, to allow remote phone geo-location, locking and content deletion if phones are lost or stolen.
•        PleexMigrator, to make content transfer between mobiles easy with no special hardware nor software needed.

•        PleexSocial, to publish content and comments on Web 2.0 sites and create meta social networks, such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Blogger, LinkedIn, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and many more.

Operators using Pleex can expect an increase in ARPU for this new subscription-based service and reduce churn. Pleex is distinguished by its compatibility with most handset types (over 2,500 devices) and intuitive usability. The time-to-market is only 2 to 8 weeks.

Morpho and Maeglin Software are already in contact with several interested operators in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

Morpho’s German smart card production site passes quality audit by Cartes Bancaires “CB”
group

The smart card production site of Morpho (Safran group) in Flintbek (northern Germany) successfully passed a quality audit performed by the Cartes Bancaires “CB”
group (GCB*). As a result, the Morpho e-Documents Division is now certified for another year to produce GCB cards.
The company was first authorized to manufacture CB
French bank cards by GCB in 2007 after successfully passing product and system qualification requirements.  This qualification relates to precisely defined products and processes and is valid exclusively for the site approved.
Just as with independent certification bodies, a one-time initial certification is not enough, since the certificate expires after a certain length of time and must then be awarded again. For approval by GCB, the renewal interval is one year. After that period, a judgment is made, considering, for example, if products have been modified; a product and/or system audit is then performed again to monitor compliance with the development of the standards required for GCB.

*
Set up in France in 1984 to establish an interbank card payment and cash withdrawal system, Groupement des Cartes Bancaires “CB” is an Economic Interest Group (EIG) with almost 140 members from French and foreign banking and financial institutions, mostly operating in France.
