F5 delivers broad solution portfolio to meet customer concerns for high performance, security and operational efficiency

New BIG-IP application delivery solutions and appliance-sized VIPRION 2200 underpin success of organisations’ security, data centre, cloud and mobility initiatives

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • New F5 BIG-IP® version 11.5 software enhances the delivery of Software Defined Application Services (SDAS) to provide optimisation, security, reliability, and management capabilities for all applications across any data centre or cloud infrastructure.

  • VIPRION® 2200 is the industry’s first modular Application Delivery Controller chassis in an appliance footprint (2U), giving customers unparalleled price/performance in its class and over 50% price-per-instance savings compared to single appliances

  • F5’s Synthesis architecture combines complementary technologies to form a high-performance services fabric aimed at improving application service velocity, adding IT agility, reducing TCO, and deploying flexible technologies that enable current investments to pay dividends in the future.

HONG KONG, APRIL 30, 2014F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) announced at its Singapore Agility Conference today availability in Asia Pacific of new offerings that enhance the benefits of the F5 Synthesis architecture model. F5® technologies are designed to help organisations quickly deploy applications and streamline the mix of services needed to ensure success for security, data centre, cloud, and mobility initiatives. F5’s broad solution portfolio enables customers to seamlessly scale environments, whether on-premises or in the cloud.

Specifically, F5 is announcing:

· New BIG-IP® version 11.5 software for enhanced application delivery services and security

· The industry’s most capable virtual solutions with throughput levels of 25 Mbps to 10 Gbps, to support hybrid and virtual appliance deployments across the broadest set of hypervisors

· A new two-slot VIPRION 2200 chassis that combines the capabilities of F5’s ScaleN and Clustered Multiprocessing to address all aspects of performance and scalability for organisations’ vital application services. The new offering is ideal for midrange customers looking for the on-demand scalability of VIPRION but have rack space constraints, or related concerns like power/cooling requirements, that require an appliance footprint.

Application-Driven Elasticity with F5’s High-Performance Services Fabric

F5 application services remove the limitation of tying specific hardware to the needs of only a few priority apps by taking advantage of an all-active and multi-tenant services fabric to combine the performance, security, and availability gains of many technologies in a scalable, easy to manage fashion.

F5 pioneered ScaleN device service clusters (DSCs) in 2011 to give customers the ability to align device resources in an all-active configuration, improving resource utilisation compared to traditional active/passive high availability (HA) pairs. With F5’s offerings, customers gain improved application performance through:

· Unparalleled application fluency – Advanced protocol handling, such as MPTCP and mobile TCP optimisation, plus application profiles for MS SQL, FIX, and BER/DER encoding capabilities

· Optimised application delivery – WebP conversion feature for 26% smaller images and a per-application dedicated cache leveraging HTML5 Local Storage capabilities

· The industry’s broadest hypervisor support – Including support for Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V, VMware ESXi 5.5, Citrix Xen 6.2 and Community Xen 4.2, KVM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4, CentOS 6.4, Ubuntu 13.04, and Debian 7.1

· Simplified DNS deployment capabilities – Efficient configuration management and optimised DNS resolving

· Integrated support for the SPDY web protocol to optimise user experience and boost security without incurring costs of updating web application server infrastructure

· SSD-enabled appliances and blades – Increased vADC guest density (over 2x competitors’ solutions) and improved performance to further benefit application services. An F5 Synthesis High Performance Services Fabric composed of SSD-enabled appliances will deliver greater economies of scale and better performance of apps because security, performance, access control and other services can be applied faster.

Delivering Unmatched Performance and Scalability in its Class

With F5’s virtual Clustered Multiprocessing (vCMP®) technology, the VIPRION chassis provides the highest density multi-tenant solution in its class to enable efficient consolidation of application services and underutilised ADCs. VIPRION 2200 offers the application delivery capabilities that matter most to enterprises with high-traffic, mission critical web applications, including:

· 160 G of L7 throughput and 4 million L7 requests per second (RPS)

· 72 Gbps of SSL bulk crypto throughput – 2x the closest competitor

· 80 Gbps of hardware compression – 5x the closest competitor

· Accelerated hardware DDoS protection against over 50 attacks

· Up to 40 high performance virtual BIG-IP® guests (and up to 1280 instances in a 32-device cluster) with compelling price-per-instance savings over other appliance offerings

“We see customers supporting a growing number of applications with a variety of physical, virtual, and cloud-based solutions,” said Linda Hui, Managing Director for Hong Kong and Taiwan, F5. “With the 2200, organisations can add scalable processing power in an appliance form factor, while maintaining the ability to upgrade systems on demand. Customers choosing to deploy hardware and software together can easily combine resources from each within a unified services delivery fabric.”

Simplified Business Models to Reduce Costs and Complexity

Today’s organisations seek elegant ways to deploy and scale a broad set of physical, virtual, and cloud-based solutions without sacrificing future flexibility. F5 is making it easier for customers to deploy and scale impactful technologies in new ways that include:

· Expanded utility billing options on the AWS Marketplace – F5 customers can deliver application services in the cloud while paying only for the resources they use

· Streamlined license management for F5 Virtual Edition (VE) license pools – BIG-IP VEs can be provisioned/deprovisioned as needed, and manage licenses for all VEs in a given pool

· Integrated deployment options and F5’s Good, Better, Best tiered licensing offerings – The industry’s most scalable and flexible platforms reduce the cost of deploying multiple application services without compromise

“With enhancements across the Synthesis portfolio, F5 is making it easier for organisations to deliver seamless application services without relying on point solutions or isolated resources to support the applications that drive business results. Because F5’s integrated security, acceleration, and availability capabilities can be implemented across a flexible services fabric, customers can orchestrate and tailor their systems to efficiently support all types of IT deployments, and better align application services with business and user experience,” said Linda Hui, Managing Director for Hong Kong and Taiwan, F5.
