Qtel and Nepal Telecom Join Hands for Better Services
Major Agreement Provides Higher Quality Calling and Direct Connections for Customers in Both Countries
Doha, Qatar
Qtel and Nepal Telecom today signed a major agreement that will support international telephone connections between Qatar and Nepal.
Under the terms of the agreement, which is the first to be signed between operators in the two countries, voice traffic will be routed directly via a newly-established cable interconnection. The direct cable connection is the only one of its kind between Qatar and Nepal.
With a significant number of calls between Qatar and Nepal every day, customers in the two nations will benefit considerably from the new agreement. Call quality and interconnection will improve significantly and both companies will be able to offer a new range of attractive call offers to customers calling Nepal and Qatar.
In addition, the high-end NGN switches, deployed by both companies as part of the agreement, will add a layer of flexibility that enable better connectivity for both wired and Internet communications. The enhanced redundant connectivity will provide extra support in case of cable breakdowns or service disruptions.
Since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations on 21 January 1977, Qatar and Nepal have enjoyed an excellent relationship. A significant number of Nepalese expatriates are employed in the dynamic Qatari economy. Communication between Nepalese expatriates working in Qatar and their families back home has helped to build a bridge between the two countries, and this new agreement adds significance to that process.

The executives from both companies met in Doha this week for Qtel’s Business Development Workshop, to review opportunities for collaboration and shared initiatives. Nepal Telecom is the first operator from outside the Middle East region to participate in one of Qtel’s Development Workshops.
With both companies holding the leadership positions in their respective markets, this business partnership between Qtel and Nepal Telecom marks another important step forward in collaboration between Asian and Middle Eastern companies, and reflects the ongoing growth and development of Qatar’s knowledge-based economy.
