Qualcomm Demonstrates LTE Advanced Category 6 with Ericsson at Mobile World Congress

— Qualcomm Gobi 9×35 modem enables peak download speeds of up to 300 Mbps, doubling previous generation’s speeds —

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 24, 2014 – Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., in cooperation with Ericsson, will be conducting live demonstrations of LTE Advanced Category 6 connectivity with download speeds up to 300 Mbps at Mobile World Congress. The demonstrations, conducted using a test device equipped with Qualcomm Technologies’ fourth-generation multimode LTE modem – the Qualcomm® Gobi 9×35 – on Ericsson network infrastructure, can be viewed at Qualcomm’s booth, Hall 3 Stand 3E10.

The Gobi 9×35 modem offers up to 300 Mbps LTE Advanced connections worldwide, doubling the peak download speeds of previous generation and supporting up to 40 MHz wideband carrier aggregation deployments on FDD and TDD networks. Additionally, the Gobi 9×35 is the mobile industry’s first commercially announced cellular modem to be manufactured on 20 nm process.

“We’re excited to be demonstrating the next generation of LTE Advanced connectivity with Ericsson,” said Serge Willenegger, vice president of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The faster speeds and improved performance enabled by our Gobi 9×35 modem in support of an expanding range of LTE deployment scenarios globally reinforces our continued technology leadership in mobile broadband connectivity and adds even more versatility to our modem portfolio.”

In addition to faster data speeds, the Gobi 9×35 consumes less power and requires less printed circuit board (PCB) area than previous generations, enabling OEMs to design sleeker devices without sacrificing performance, while at the same time allowing operators to increase their network capacity and efficiency.

“Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies’ leadership and collaboration in next-generation LTE Advanced connectivity is once again shown in today’s demonstration,” said Per Narvinger, Head of Product Line for LTE, Ericsson. “We’re pleased to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to bring this technology to market and deliver even faster mobile connections to customers worldwide.”

The Category 6 speeds enabled by the Gobi 9×35 will allow customers to enjoy blazing-fast downloads, snappier application performance due to lower network response time, and run more connectivity based applications smoothly, as well as concurrently.
