Radio Innovation announces a strategic partnership with COATL to promote equitable internet access in El Salvador

by Anthony Weaver

COATL and Radio Innovation seek to promote equitable internet access for the most remote populations, enhancing the power of connectivity in education, health, security, tourism, industry, agriculture, and other areas of constant evolution.

El Salvador is one of the Latin American countries with the lowest connectivity rates, especially in the rural areas. To promote equitable internet access for the most remote populations, the Salvadoran technology company COATL has announced a strategic partnership with Radio Innovation, a world leading disruptive telecom infrastructure supplier, and is currently building a fiber optic network (OPGW), the only of its kind in El Salvador.

With this partnership, COATL’s main goal is to provide El Salvador with a Broadband Neutral Network, considered the “5 Lane Telco Highway”, to promote equitable internet access for the most remote populations, enhancing the power of connectivity in education, health, security, tourism, industry, agriculture, and other areas of constant evolution. The OPGW boasts initial transport capabilities of 100 Gigs, enough to execute connectivity and digitalization projects throughout the country. To date, 70% of the digital highway has been completed and is ready to begin providing high level connectivity and digital services.

Uwe Martinz, President, and CEO of COATL shared that “After many months of interactions with technical, financial, and legal experts, we are very excited to announce our strategic partnership with Radio Innovation Sweden, which will bring added value to the Neutral Broadband Network with unique technical faculties. Radio Innovation Sweden’s smart antenna solution allows an optimization potential between 30% to 50% when compared to traditional solutions, especially in rural areas, significantly impacting costs of investment, implementation times, and most importantly, reducing environmental impact, all key elements to accelerate our solution of connectivity and digitalization to more people across the Salvadoran territory.

The uniqueness of the Radio Innovations antenna solution lies in its effectiveness to reduce the number of tower sites, and therefore immensely reducing the environmental footprint, by deploying only the minimal amount of infrastructure, while providing high quality, high-speed voice and data, securing the capacity needs even in the densest urban areas.

“Our mission has always been to bridge the global digital divide. Teaming up with COATL to partake in the El Salvador Connectivity program is an exciting project for Radio Innovation to establish strong relationship with the Latin American market. This important and great decision will enable Radio Innovation to bring low cost, fast internet connection to every household, school, and workplace in El Salvador. We are truly happy to have established and further strengthen our new partnership with COATL” says Dusyant Patel, CEO of Radio Innovation.
