RailTel Corporation of India Selects Coriant for Network Upgrade and Expansion

Coriant Brings Deep Experience in DWDM and MPLS-TP Technology to
Pioneering Multi-State Network

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 15 December 2014
– Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end transport solutions, today announced that RailTel, one of the largest telecom infrastructure providers in India, has selected Coriant to upgrade and expand its backbone network. The Coriant solution will enhance RailTel’s ability to meet the increased bandwidth needs of its enterprise and government customers and will span the cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mughalsarai and Patna, and other sites further into the Northeast of India. The network expansion is part of RailTel’s continued efforts to support the Government of India’s vision to bridge the digital divide by providing affordable and reliable broadband on-demand by 2015.

RailTel is a subsidiary of Indian Railways, one of the world’s largest railway networks. It was formed in 2000 with the objective of creating a nationwide broadband telecom and multimedia network. With its leadership position and vast experience serving both private and public sector organizations, RailTel has a pivotal role in fulfilling the government’s vision to extend broadband access to all of India.

“We are excited to partner with RailTel and be part of a visionary program to provide rural India with high-speed and high-quality broadband access,” said Mikko Lavanti, Executive Vice President of Sales, Coriant. “Our future-proof and low latency solution will allow RailTel to continue to deliver reliable broadband services to its customers, while at the same time enable them to expand and seamlessly scale their high-capacity service offerings.”

To upgrade and expand its multi-state network, RailTel selected an end-to-end Coriant solution comprised of the Coriant™ hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform and the Coriant™ 7090 Packet Transport Platform. The 7090 platform provides RailTel with an efficient and scalable access and aggregation solution that supports cost-efficient service-enabling technologies including MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet. The combination of the 7090 and Coriant’s industry-leading hiT 7300 coherent long haul and ultra-long haul (LH/ULH) optical transport platform provides the foundation for fully integrated, end-to-end provisioning capabilities and efficient and flexible “any service” transport across RailTel’s infrastructure network.

The hiT 7300 and 7090 are key components of the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ Solution, which combines a flexible transport infrastructure, dynamic network control based on the Coriant Transcend™ SDN Solution, and integrated network planning to create a powerful toolkit for multi-layer network efficiencies and next-generation service innovation in a new networked world.
