iStreamPlanet Announces Aventus Beta Release and Media Technology Partners

Microsoft and Turner Broadcasting Previewing Aventus for Multiscreen Live Event and Live Linear Deployments

LAS VEGAS April 9, 2013 iStreamPlanet today announced the beta release of its Aventus software-based live video workflow platform, which will launch late in the second quarter. iStreamPlanet is rolling out the limited beta version to select content owners, platform providers, and channel partners including Microsoft, Turner Broadcasting, thePlatform, and Hibernia Networks, all of whom will be testing the live video workflow platform to power multiscreen, multichannel live linear deployments.

“Reaching beta is a critical milestone in the development of Aventus, and we couldn’t have done it without our customers and partners,” said Nick Vicars-Harris, vice president of software engineering at iStreamPlanet. “We have the ability to deploy and gather feedback from the most experienced and innovative companies in media, so we are working together to strengthen Aventus and bring to market the world’s best solution for delivering live event and live linear streaming channels to multiple devices.”

Aventus includes a full set of capabilities for creating, configuring, managing and monitoring multiple live streaming channels. Aventus is built from the ground up to meet the specific challenges in delivering multiscreen live video, including scalability, reliability, and cost.

Aventus uses cloud-based virtual machines running on commodity x86 hardware to power the media workflow so that resources can be deployed dynamically, scaling workflow infrastructure depending on resource needs. In terms of reliability, Aventus provides telemetry across the live video workflow, with automated error detection, correction, and notification, as well as full redundancy and automated recovery in rare cases of catastrophic software or hardware failure. Because it is based on software, Aventus significantly reduces the cost of delivering live video compared to dedicated, hardware-based infrastructure.

Technology Partners
iStreamPlanet will combine Aventus’ scalability, reliability, and cost effectiveness with Windows Azure’s flexible cloud services to power content acquisition, media processing, and management of live video workflows for premium content providers.

iStreamPlanet also announces support for industry-leading technologies from Dolby Laboratories and Rovi. Rovi’s MainConcept SDKs will provide primary format support in Aventus, including support for H.264, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 video codecs and a range of Dolby® audio codecs.
