NXP Showcases Secure Connections for a Smarter World at MWC 2014

NXP demonstrates smart life solutions in the home, in the car, and on the move

Singapore, 24 February 2014 – NXP Semiconductors (MWC Hall 7 Stand 7E30) will be showcasing cutting edge technology for a wide variety of innovative applications at this year’s Mobile World Congress – Europe’s premier technology event. Playing a major role in the evolution of connected technology, NXP will show off a range of applications and services that are enabling secure connections for a smarter world.

Today, more than ever before, consumers want, or need, to be constantly connected to the internet – at home, in the car, or while travelling. Underpinning this connected revolution is the need for confidence in the security of our data, and to ensure it is only accessible to authorised people or programmes. The world leader in identification solutions, NXP is also the world’s largest supplier of secure technology that protects bank, credit and public transport payment cards, successfully securing billions of financial transactions every single day.

NXP is also driving the adoption of secure mobile transactions and NFC solutions, with 90% of all NFC equipped mobile handsets using NXP’s technology. The mobile device is transforming the way we interact with the physical world, and its convenience is underlined by the 280 million NFC devices sold in 2013 (ABI Research), of which 90% of all mobile secure transactions utilised NXP’s NFC solutions.

NXP will demonstrate a wide range of applications and services that provide secure connections for a smarter world, including:

Smart lighting: an LED-lamp that changes colour through NFC-enabled smartcards/mobile phones

An enhanced version of NXP’s ground-breaking mobile audio solution, using a fridge as a mini sound studio

“Smart” wireless charging pad designs – bringing together Qi and NFC

NFC interactions between smartphones and everyday applications, including coffee machine product selection

Tap an NFC tag at online checkouts – mitigate the risk of cyber-attacks in online transactions

NXP’s MIFARE mobile ticketing solutions

Demonstration of NXP’s in-car entertainment, car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication solutions

“NXP is once again showing off the world’s most innovative services across a wide range of applications at this year’s Mobile World Congress,” said Jeff Miles, vice president and general manager, mobile transactions product line, NXP Semiconductors. “Security has been part of NXP’s core for a long time, as the world leader in global identification, authentication and NFC solutions, due to our technical knowledge, world-class security expertise and unmatched contactless performance.”

NXP Software, a global leader in mobile multimedia software, will be demonstrating (7C31 in Hall 7) exciting use cases for tomorrow’s smart devices. NXP Software brings value to the entire mobile ecosystem through LifeVibes solutions for mobile devices, including noise suppression technology, innovations in voice commands, and a range of speech and sensing applications.

“You will be amazed what tomorrow’s smart devices can do for you; for example with fullband calling and a voice UI your device is already smarter than ever”, says Edwin Zuidema, marketing director, NXP Software. “And LifeVibes speech and sensing solutions will make your devices even more human, more you!”

NFC

NFC is a ground-breaking technology that allows enabled devices to respond to the tap of objects. NFC transforms the already dynamic user experience in a way that expands the potential of the “Internet of Things”. With a simple tap of an NFC-enabled device tags in smart posters, contactless ticketing or payment terminals, users can interact with devices in a secure and intuitive manner. Co-invented by NXP Semiconductors in 2002, NXP’s NFC technology is now incorporated in personal computers, tablets, and mobile phones from major OEM’s. NXP enables native integration in mobile operating systems, joint development in the services of mobile network operators and service providers and facilitation in the delivery and tags and readers deployed by transit operators, retailers, access control systems, and advertisers.
