NTT Communications Singapore Serangoon Data Center Awarded LEED Gold Certification for New Construction

Industry-standard green building assessment recognizes Singapore Serangoon Data Center for

environmentally-friendly design, construction, operation and management

Singapore, 29 October 2012 – NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) announced today that its Singapore Serangoon Data Center has been awarded the LEED® Gold Certification for New Construction by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for environmentally-friendly design, operations and management. LEED certification is a globally recognized benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings, and a LEED certification to the Gold level is given for buildings that are designed and constructed with sustainable concepts and practices that substantially reduce the building’s impact on the environment as compared to other, similar facilities.

The LEED certification is an internationally recognized mark of environmental excellence in built environment developed by USGBC. LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Over 50,000 projects are currently participating in the commercial and institutional LEED rating systems, comprising over 8.9 billion square feet of construction space in more than 130 countries.

The data center comes with environmentally-friendly features such as glass panels which allow natural light into the building and rooftop solar panels to reduce energy expenditure.  It also has earned a host of globally recognized accreditations and received “platinum” recognition – the highest possible ranking – in the special buildings category under the Green Mark Scheme, an evaluation system for environmental consideration in building design.  The scheme is administered by the Building & Construction Authority; a statutory board under the Ministry of National Development of Singapore.

“The strength of USGBC has always been the collective strength of our leaders in the building industry,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council.  “Given the extraordinary importance of climate protection and the central role of the building industry in that effort, NTT Communications demonstrates their leadership through their LEED certification of Singapore Serangoon Data Center.”

“I am honoured that Singapore Serangoon Data Center has received the USGBC LEED Gold Certification which is one of the highest forms of recognition of our commitment to construct data center buildings that are designed to be efficient and have a lower impact on our global environment,” said Kazunori Tanaka, President and CEO, NTT Worldwide Telecommunications.

“It is a testament of our long-term dedication to operational sustainability even as the demand for data center services continues to increase,” said Takeshi Kazami, President and CEO, NTT Singapore.  “This certification clearly differentiates Singapore Serangoon Data Center vis-à-vis our competitors and gives us a strategic advantage in Singapore’s competitive data center landscape. We are confident that enterprise customers can enjoy our global ICT services economically based on our Global Cloud Vision and Serangoon Data Center, which contributes to operate their businesses efficiently and to realize their corporate social responsibility as global citizen.”

Singapore Serangoon Data Center is designed to serve the needs of the financial services industry and enterprises that require high power, low latency networks and a stable and secure infrastructure to build on their private cloud.  The data center is strategically located in close proximity of the local stock exchanges to provide low latency networks for high-frequency electronic trading, and also hosts high density racks of up to 12kVA and is fitted with IPv6 ready infrastructure.
