Rohde & Schwarz leading the way with chipset, wireless devices and mobile radio network testing at MWC 2015

Rohde & Schwarz will present innovative solutions for all wireless communications industry players at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The T&M specialist is already pioneering the rollout of LTE-Advanced and the evolution toward 5G.

Munich, January 30, 2015 – This is the second time that the Rohde & Schwarz group of companies will have two booths in Barcelona. The main booth (hall 6, C40) will showcase applications for the development and production of wireless devices and infrastructure components for LTE, LTE Advanced and other standards. Rohde & Schwarz and its subsidiaries SwissQual, ipoque and Rohde & Schwarz SIT will demonstrate their expertise in mobile radio network testing at the second booth (hall 6, B50).

T&M equipment blazes trail for commercial LTE-Advanced implementation

At its main booth, Rohde & Schwarz will focus on its numerous innovations in T&M instruments and systems, which promote commercial LTE Advanced availability. The tried and tested R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester will be on display with new features including RF, protocol and end to end tests for LTE-Advanced 3CC/4CC downlink carrier aggregation (CA) with 2×2, 4×2 and even 8×2 MIMO. The instrument offers the performance needed for end to end user equipment (UE) testing up to category 11 in line with 3GPP and can supply the required 600 Mbps data rate at IP level. The R&S CMW500 is the only test platform that already supports RF and protocol tests for carrier aggregation in line with 3GPP Release 12 for TDD/FDD joint operation. Thanks to the TDD/FDD joint operation feature, network operators will soon be able to combine multiple component carriers with different duplex modes to efficiently exploit existing frequency bands.

LTE-Advanced 3CC downlink carrier aggregation is also an important topic when it comes to RF conformance testing of chipsets and mobile user equipment. The R&S TS8980 test system simulates an LTE Advanced network with 3CC CA in the downlink and executes initial test cases for transmitters and receivers.

5G, the next mobile radio generation, is expected to debut in 2020. Before then, a great deal of research and standardization work needs to be done. Rohde & Schwarz currently supports R&D efforts to identify potential technologies for implementing 5G mobile radio networks. At MWC, the company will demonstrate a test setup for broadband 5G applications in the millimeter wave range. The setup can test bandwidths up to 2 GHz, which is 100 larger than in current LTE networks.

Complete, single source portfolio for mobile radio network testing

“The Edge of Mobile Network Testing” – that is the motto of booth B50 in hall 6, where subsidiaries SwissQual and ipoque will join Rohde & Schwarz to showcase a complete portfolio of test and monitoring solutions for mobile radio networks. This is unparalleled in the market. Network operators, infrastructure providers and regulatory authorities can use these products to verify and optimize the quality of their networks and services and ensure the satisfaction of their subscribers. Rohde & Schwarz will present innovations to its mobile network testing systems at Mobile World Congress. The portfolio is now complemented by the R&S TSMA standalone mobile network scanner, which can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet to deliver measurement data for network optimization. SwissQual will present QualiPoc Remote Control, the newest member of its QualiPoc product family for network monitoring and optimization. Ipoque will show various products including the new compact version of its Net Reporter IP traffic analysis system with integrated probe. Rohde & Schwarz SIT will also be represented at the booth and showcase its comprehensive portfolio of “Made in Germany” IT security solutions. These products provide protection from eavesdropping and manipulation for data transmissions in mobile radio access and core networks.
