“ROMA COVERED CITY” LINKEM ARRIVES IN ROME AND DEPLOYS THE LARGEST FIXED WIRELESS ACCESS NETWORK IN EUROPE

·         Linkem, a leading company in the broadband sector in Italy, invests in the city of Rome to deploy its 4G LTE network providing high-speed, wireless Internet connection in the central parts and outskirts of the city.

·         A wholly Italian company with foreign capital. Thanks to US funds from Leucadia and Ramius, Linkem covers over 50% of the Italian population with 400,000 subscribers.

·         The Linkem model is Fiber-to-the-Wireless: optical fiber to the antennas and last mile with the most advanced radio technology utilizing licensed frequencies. Expansive and quickly deployed network provides for highly efficient investment and, for its customers, the guarantee of a high quality and capacity scalable service.

Rome, October 3rd, 2016 – Linkem, a leading company in Italy for broadband Internet services for households and businesses, arrives in Rome and implements the largest Fixed Wireless Access network in Europe for broadband and ultrabroadband services. Its investment will involve the entire city, outskirts included. The start of the project will be announced tonight during the event “Roma covered city,” which is held at the Historical Museum of the Army Corps of Engineers, where Guglielmo Marconi’s first radio is housed. Important representatives from institutions and the international financial and economical world will be present.

Bringing Internet and wireless innovation together, at reasonable costs, is Linkem’s contribution to the digitalization project of the Country and enables new opportunities of social integration and economic growth. Rome could not be excluded from this project, considering that – although covered almost fully with broadband – only two households out of three have an active service. In the areas covered by ultrabroadband services (89%) only one household out of nine have subscribed these services.

Linkem is investing in the Capital city in order to reach 1,400,000 households with its service, utilizing 150 commercial partners. The support given by the American funds Leucadia and Ramius (in particular by Jimmy Hallac, Jeff Libshutz and Peter Cohen, former Board member of Telecom Italia and founder of Omnitel) coupled with the structural partnerships developed with international leading operators in research and production of technological systems have provided the foundation of this project. This project comes to completion after an incessant path of growth at national level, which has led the Company to cover more than 50% of the Italian population already, reaching 400,000 subscribers.

‘Roma covered city’: we are happy to have reached this goal,” – says Mr. Davide Rota, CEO of Linkem – “Rome is now our main technological and market challenge. The LTE radio technology, that is the 4G we are using on 3.5GHz licensed frequencies, makes up a reliable and more efficient infrastructure than any wired solution. This also allows us to be fast in covering the territory and to maintain our service at reasonable costs. It is the ideal choice to provide a quality service to customers and to be able to manage an ever increasing traffic volume but, above all, it is the correct foundation on which new services can be devised. To celebrate ‘Roma covered city’” – Mr. Rota continues – “we have chosen an exceptional location, the Historical Museum of the Army Corps of Engineers, as it houses one of the first radios invented by Guglielmo Marconi together with other artifacts which have marked the history of telecommunications. These objects have a special meaning for us, because they symbolize the technological development, which is the underlying base of our entrepreneurial adventure.”
