joyn Blackbird brings latest RCS standard of advanced messaging and calling features to Samsung Galaxy devices on all networks

London, UK – 1st August, 2014 Samsung Electronics is pleased to be recognised as the first smartphone provider accredited with joyn Blackbird from the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA), the latest level of accreditation among Rich Communications Services (RCS)-based services. As the only company among smartphone providers and RCS-based application developers currently joyn Blackbird accredited, Samsung again proves it is at the forefront of the fastest mobile technology. The incorporation of joyn Blackbird provides Samsung Galaxy owners on major operators’ networks with more stable and convenient chat, live video and file sharing capabilities.

“RCS is a progressive and important technology that is transforming the future of mobile communication,” said J.K Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics. “As a market leader in technology, Samsung continues to differentiate itself by providing our customers with the most advanced mobile communications software and solutions available.”

joyn Blackbird allows Samsung Galaxy customers to enjoy multimedia communication services in a more efficient and personalised way, beyond traditional voice and SMS. This includes:

·         Video Share and Image Share functionalities allowing them to switch to a video call or share pictures during a voice call

·         Capability Discovery for verification of whether they can utilise joyn and what services they can utilise currently

·         Fully Integrated Messaging incorporating joyn onto existing SMS/MMS apps as well as SMS/MMS conversion when a joyn participant is not available

·         File transfer support during 1-to-1 chatting or group chatting, with non joyn users receiving an SMS for download.

Samsung will begin offering joyn Blackbird-based services on flagship models including the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 by the end of 2014* in Germany and Spain, with subsequent European availability in France, UK and Italy.
