Satellite IRG and Global VSAT Forum Collaborating to Beat Interference

Douglas, Isle of Man, 14 June 2011 – The Satellite Interference Reduction Group (sIRG) and the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) today announced that they are working in partnership to further combat the costly and time-consuming problem of satellite interference.

Both groups have been heavily involved in determining the cause of interference, as well as taking measures to reduce the occurrences, through a number of initiatives, such as introducing carrier ID, in the form of embedded code, promoting a system of type approval or system characterisation and through a process of training and certification.

sIRG and GVF will be co-presenting at the Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC) summit during Broadcast Asia on Tuesday 21st June at 14:30pm. Martin Coleman, Executive Director, sIRG, and David Hartshorn, Secretary General, GVF, will be discussing the problem of interference and measures the industry can take to reduce, and ultimately avoid it.

Both groups will also be campaigning heavily throughout the show, meeting with operators and equipment manufacturers and attending a number of conferences and meetings, including CASBAA, which takes place ahead of the show on Monday 20th June.

GVF will be organizing the next Product Quality Assurance Summit at Singtel headquarters from 9-11 am on 22 June. Satellite operators, earth station manufacturers and other industry leadership will meet to discuss measures to ensure that transmitting devices do not introduce unacceptable levels of interference.
