Sigma Designs Expands Conditional Access Portfolio with Verimatrix Advanced Security

MILPITAS, Calif. – September 12, 2013 – Sigma Designs® (Nasdaq: SIGM), a leading provider of System-on-Chip (SoC) solutions for home entertainment, control, connectivity and converging multimedia delivery, announced its support of the full range of Verimatrix security solutions in all secure media processors including the recently launched ARM processor-based SOC family. Verimatrix is the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-network, multi-screen digital TV services around the globe.

Sigma Designs, a leader in IPTV set-top boxes, has had a long successful partnership with Verimatrix on set-top box (STB) security solutions during the growth in deployments of IPTV systems. Sigma Designs-based STBs were deployed in many systems in conjunction with the cardless Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS™). Recent growth of broadband in the emerging markets such as BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries, in conjunction with the switch to digital broadcast standards, have extended entertainment and programming choices available to consumers. Both Sigma Designs and Verimatrix have leveraged their respective strengths to address these new opportunities in broadcast and hybrid pay-TV solutions with advanced, cost effective components.

The Verimatrix VCAS solutions now offer revenue security to broadcast only, IP-Hybrid and OTT delivery systems, with an integrated ViewRight® ONE client security architecture that leverages all the features of Sigma SOCs to offer advanced security features in cost-effective cardless system implementations. Sigma is certifying its SMP8670 series and its newly launched ARM CPU powered SMP87xx series for advanced security deployments across broadcast and IP delivery networks.

“Verimatrix is an excellent fit with the Sigma Designs offerings in emerging markets where using their unique multi-network and cardless security solutions enables both low-cost zapper STBs and advanced hybrid designs. The new VCAS solution allows us to scale across broadcast, hybrid and IPTV content delivery platforms,” said Mustafa Ozgen, vice president and general manager Home Multimedia for Sigma Designs.

“Verimatrix is delighted to extend its long partnership with Sigma to enable a new range of STB design solutions for our joint customers,” stated Petr Peterka, CTO or Verimatrix. “Our VCAS solutions address a broad range of new pay-TV deployment challenges with a true multi-network architecture. Sigma has proven their approach to hardware security is a good match for our ViewRight ONE client and will help to accelerate the momentum of cardless security deployments.”
