Funambol MediaHub is the First Available Cloud-based Digital Locker to Wirelessly Sync and Access Rich Media, Files and PIM Data Across the Most Mobile Devices

Securely store and easily share videos, photos, files, contacts and calendars in one trusted cloud account for easy access via any mobile phone, computer or tablet

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 15, 2011Funambol, the leader of smart cloud sync solutions, today announced the general availability of its new MediaHub™ software. A cloud-based digital locker, MediaHub unites rich media (e.g. videos and pictures), files and PIM data (e.g. contacts and calendars) on multiple devices into a single, secure personal cloud for access by any device.

“People increasingly have data and content in multiple places and it is becoming more important to easily access it across disparate devices,” said Bob O’Donnell, vice president, clients and displays at IDC. “MediaHub represents a new category of cloud media digital locker solutions that can transform the way people store, buy and access media across different devices.”

Unlike cloud storage services that are tied to a single brand of device or are file-centric, open source-based MediaHub syncs the widest variety of data and media across the most mobile and connected devices, including iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Symbian. As a white-label solution, MediaHub is targeted for mobile operators, device makers and other companies that want to quickly deploy a branded cloud digital locker. MediaHub can be licensed for deployment behind the firewall or hosted by Funambol on behalf of customers for rapid time to market.

“Carriers are looking to significantly grow data revenue by leveraging smartphones, rich media and social networks, and they want to prevent device makers and internet companies from seizing their users and becoming just a ‘dumb pipe,’” said Gian de la Rama, president and CEO of OneView, a systems integrator for major mobile operators in Southeast Asia. “Funambol MediaHub is exactly what mobile operators need – a killer app for users.”

“MediaHub is like iCloud but for all devices. It enables carriers, device makers and other mobile service providers to increase revenue and customer loyalty by syncing, storing and sharing user data and content across diverse devices. It helps companies compete with alternative over-the-top services,” said Amit Chawla, CEO of Funambol. “MediaHub is the first white-label carrier-grade cloud digital locker that provides the broadest device compatibility and customizability. We are excited to work with some of the largest companies in mobile around the world to quickly deploy it.”

For end users and developers, MediaHub can be instantly accessed for free from the myFUNAMBOL Portal at http://my.funambol.com. Along with the MediaHub features of expanded rich media and file syncing, free user storage has now tripled to 150MB. In addition, myFUNAMBOL’s Cloud API (CAPI, https://capi.forge.funambol.org) has been extended to support video and files to enable developers to create apps that sync and share rich media across a wide variety of mobile and connected devices.

Funambol MediaHub is immediately available. For more information, visit the Funambol website at http://www.funambol.com where you can watch a demo, download a data sheet and white paper, and contact Funambol for additional information.
